I’ve never really been the type of girl that paints her nails, but still, I buy polish every once in awhile, promising myself I will for special occasions. I’ve finally come to the realization that it is never going to happen. Never. Between gardening, canning, cooking, etc. {I always wear gardening gloves, but it doesn’t seem to matter} my hands and nails take a beating. Nail polish is a pipe dream–so, what am I going to do with those little bottles of color that I’ve already purchased? Turns out, plenty!
Here’s 10 unique ways to use nail polish:
- Use clear polish on gardening labels to prevent the marker from smudging.
- Seal an envelope {which is awesome, because I HATE licking envelopes, they really should develop a red-vine flavored envelope, don’t you think?}
- Coordinate your cords for computers and televisions with different colored polishes. Dab a little polish on each end of cords so that you will know which plug belongs to which cord, by matching up the colors. {This is way better than just giving the cord a tug and seeing what moves. Ha.}
- Tighten loose screws by dabbing nail polish on the end before screwing it in. It will dry and tighten up nicely.
- Use nail polish on the end of thread, allow it to dry a bit, and then easily thread a needle.
- Fingers turn green when you wear costume jewelry? Dab clear polish on the inside of the ring and problem solved.
- Stop a fraying shoe lace with clear polish. You won’t have black ends that come with burning them.
- Paint the top of keys with different colors of polish to easily tell them apart. House key, pink. Work key, red. Yacht club key, burgundy.
- Mark levels on your watering can or buckets. That way you know where a gallon is in that 5 gallon bucket, etc.
- Apply polish to the bottom of shaving cans that sit in the shower. It will prevent rust–which is a real pain in the keister to scrub off come cleaning time.
Is it wrong that with all of these potential uses, I’m thinking I might need some more nail polish? Ha!

I’m not a nail polish person either.
We attended a fancy wedding last fall, and I decided to try clear nail polish. It was the first time I had applied polish on my nails since the mid 1980’s, and it felt terrible! The next day the polish began to ware away because of the garden work, so I took that as a hint and eagerly removed the rest.
Happily no nail polish on my nails since! :0)

finger nail polish uses: lots of new ones for me. Thanks.
I use it to paint a dab on the cord plug- in top to be plugged into the electrical outlet. Instead of having to turn it over and over to see which way fits.

There are bacon flavored envelopes. They are marketed by the same company that makes Bacon Salt. Grab a tube of their bacon flavored lip balm, a box of bacon flavored envelopes and prepare to lick!

If you have a ‘ding’ in your windshield put clear nail polish into the divot. That way water can’t get into it and freeze up, putting a major crack in your windshield.

I’m an avid archer and use nail polish to crest my arrows. I paint 5 bands around the arrow shaft to identify them as mine. I like to use nail polish because it’s water proof and can stand up to a lot of abuse before it wears down.
I don’t suppose there’s much call for it in that respect, but, as a guy, that’s a use I have for it.

I use nail polish to mark certain car parts like air filter and oil filter. In just put a dab on them when they are replaced and then when you go in for service you know if its really you’re dirty air filter they are showing you claiming it needs replacing. Unfortunately this has happened to me where I asked for something to be replaced and got home to see the same part was still there. I only knew because of my red nail polish dot!

I used to wear polish. When I had a corporate job. I didn’t like the way my nail beds felt after the application of those chemicals. I don’t think I have a bottle of polish any more but I will go out and get some clear polish…. I really like suggestion #4!!!
