Now that the whole back to school rush is over and we are settling into our fall routines, I went ahead and made myself a “to do” list of small projects I’d like to get done by the end of September. There are 16 items on my list and I figure if I tackle at least one a day, hopefully I should have everything checked off by October.
Trimming the wisteria and hedges is one of the chores on my list. I managed to get one wisteria arbor trimmed yesterday before the thunder and lighting started. I was going to go back out and finish, but then it started hailing so I put on my pj’s and called it a day.
I don’t know about you, but I feel like if I don’t make a list and write everything down, I get to distracted by the everyday tasks that have to be done. Lately for me one of my daily tasks has been making heirloom tomato sauce.
Don’t tell the HH and kids, but I’m fairly certain some sort of pasta will be on the menu at least twice a week for the next 9 months. Holy cow we have had a lot of tomatoes this year.
And the chickens. Now that we have 10 million of them, we are having to fill up their water containers every other day now. Before I only had to fill them up twice a week.
And lunch snacks, it seems like as soon as I fill up the cookie jar, it’s empty within 48 hours. Do you have this problem at your house too?
Well this time around I smartened up and made 10 dozen chocolate chip cookies in one afternoon and then stashed them in the freezer}.
Are you finally feeling like you’ve got this whole back to school thing under control? Are you ready for winter? I know I am.

We are lazy around here. We have a billion chickens too, and jimmied up a 5 gallon bucket hooked to our rain gutter. It feeds a nipple watering system. SInce we are also in the PNW, it fills the chicken water for us 9 months out of the year (starting now! Yeah!)

I’m a big list person. Without it, somehow the most onerous tasks get forgotten. Imagine that.

I like to-do lists too!
I just crossed off painting my bedroom walls, which has been on the list far too long. First the weather is too hot, then suddenly it’s winter and too wet. Those were my excuses!
I have a list of garden chores too. Cut down the junipers in front. Cut down the leaning spruce. Sow a cover crop on the back “lawn” area. Cut back the mints. Get the bamboo out of the forsythia. Tear out the waning vegetables.
Back to school doesn’t mean a whole lot here, we home school. I only have one senior boy left though. His sister does go to cosmetology school 3x a week, so she packs a simple lunch. Just peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and a granola bar though, maybe some grapes or strawberries.
It’s nice you have frozen breakfasts ready. We just have cold cereal or another pb and j!
I have to try your choc. chip cookies. Freezing the dough might work for me. I make such inconsistent choc. chippers! Some are cake-like and tall, others spread out and are greasy flatsies. It might be the oven, which came with the house. Who knows if it is the right temperature at all.

Definitely need lists around here, too, or nothing gets done!
Spent last week canning spaghetti sauce and pizza sauce.
Not nearly as much as you, though!

I used to make cookies once a week, and never without at least doubling the recipe. With 4 sons and a husband that will allow a cake to turn moldy but doesn’t let cookies cool before consuming the majority of them I’ve done exactly what you did. I even went so far as to stash some in an empty cereal or cracker box before putting them in the freezer to hide them, but I got caught once when I went to sneak a cookie myself:)

Ha!!! I love that you were caught. My kids and husband would never think to look in the freezer.
