This morning there was an email from Wilco {our local feed store} letting me know they were having a 50% off sale on their cases of fresh, local produce today.
So what do you think I did?
Hmmm. Yeah, I was there at 9 am when the doors opened. 😉
- 24 Pounds of Pears $12 = $0.50 a pound
- 10 pounds of Red and Yellow Peppers $8.50 = $0.25 each!
- 25 pounds of Yellow Onions $4.50 = $0.18 a pound
- 10 pounds of Anaheim Peppers $8.50 = $0.85 a pound.
Total Spent $33.50.
Heck yeah I think that was worth getting out of bed early for.
What do you think? Do those look like stock up prices to you?

The onions are a great price however everything else you bought we are getting here in Wenatchee cheaper. So far I have gotten everything else for free. I’m turning away pears now. 100 pounds is enough for us.

Heck yeah! Those are really good prices. I’ve never heard of a feed store selling produce. How do you find out about so many good deals in your area?
Mavis Butterfield says
Wilco does this once a year. I signed up for their emails because I buy chicken feed there. 🙂
Angie Smith says
Wow! That’s some cheap produce. 🙂 I have been buying cheap fruit when I find it because I have lots of veggies but very little fruit growing here. Way to go!
Megan says
I was right there with you at 9 AM (a few miles south in Silverton, OR) getting peaches. Looks like I’ll be canning peaches today after I make yogurt (and get off the Internet). 🙂
Mavis Butterfield says
Get off the internet Megan! 🙂 If you will, I will. 🙂
Susan says
That is a FANTASTIC deal! I don’t know of any feed stores around here doing that…will have to check 🙂
Susan says
I just called my local Wilco – Battle Ground and Yes, Indeedy! – they have the produce and it IS 1/2 price today!! They have the same products you mentioned. NICE!!!!!!!!! 🙂
Mavis Butterfield says
Let me know what you get. 🙂
Susan says
I got the onions for $4.50 and peaches (20 lb) for $12 (.60 lb) Really nice looking produce! BattleGround store still has pears, peppers, peaches, onions and apples.
They will definitely sell out. There were quite a few people buying – I wondered if any of them saw your post! 🙂
Will be having either peach crisp or cobbler for dessert tonight. And canning and freezing a few. Thanks for the heads up on this!! It was worth the trip 🙂
Cheryl says
What are you going to do with all that food?
Lisa says
I would have jumped for the pears, but I don’t need the other produce. My feed store has boxes of produce too, but they ran out of peaches early so I didn’t get any. They weren’t that cheap though.

That’s awesome! We were at our Gig Harbor Wilco on Friday picking up our chicks and onions and peppers! Was excited to get the corn for $5 that day. Awesome prices! Love Wilco!
Katie says
Great prices, but is it organic? I wouldn’t take it for free if it wasn’t organic.

My favorite produce man told me he’d have a box of irregular honey crisp apples for me if I came by Sat or Sun. I dropped by late today and he gave me a 25# box of local irrreg honey crisp apples for $5.00. I really love honey crisp apples.
Mavis Butterfield says
I think those are $2.49 a pound at Fred Meyer right now. Wow! What a deal.

What a GREAT idea… I have a pretty large dehydrator and I am going to buy up what I can find locally, too, and chop and dry whatever vegies and fruits I can to store for later use. I don’t have a large freezer so this is the way I will be able to really make use of large quantities.
