My goals for 2017
Get 7- 8 Hours of Sleep Each Night
Wow. So yesterday was the big neighborhood yard sale and I must have been more tired than I thought because I hit the off button on my alarm, and fell back asleep until 8 am this morning. Sleep. It does a body good. So does 3 ibuprofen for aching muscles. 😉
Make Saving a Priority, Not an Idea
On Friday the frame my eyeglasses broke. Which, of course was totally lame. In years past I’ve bought my classes from Costco but always had to pay of out pocket for them and then submit the claim myself to our insurance company. Which always took such a long time. So this year I decided to make an appointment with a local optometrist and just get my glasses through them so I didn’t have to pay anything out of pocket up front {because they accept our insurance plan}.
Yada yada yada, my appointment isn’t until Tuesday and then it will be another 7 days wait to get my new glasses. Â So I’ve decided I’m just go to my appointment and then stay home for the rest of the week {I wanted to anyway} so I don’t have to go out in public with broken glasses.
Visit 52 REAL Bakeries
No time for pastries this week but thanks to Carolyn from New Hampshire, I have a whole pile of bakeries {and thrift stores and gardens} to check out when we’re on the east coast next time. Thanks Carolyn!
Have 1 “no spend” week each month
I had a no spend week earlier this month and may do another one next week, we’ll see.
Start a Line of Rug Hooking Patterns
So far I have 8 rug hooking patterns listed in my Etsy shop with 3 more drawn out but not completed. I’m finding it hard to get much done right now {the weather is so nice!} and that’s okay. As long as I get 12 patterns done by the end of the year I’ll be able to mark this goal off my list.
Turn My Wool Stash into $2,500. Mission Accomplished
Last week I sold a whopping $327.45 in my Etsy shop! 1 set of sunflowers and the rest, hand dyed wool. That brings my total to $4679.76  in my Etsy shop and Ebay store this year. Wahooo!
Purge 250 Items Including Selling Larger Items We No Longer Feel We Need
The Girl and I ended up making $704 at the yard sale yesterday! Yee-Haw! And the best part? We went home with only 2 items. The loaf pan you see above and my parents wooden coffee table {which I adore and was hoping wouldn’t sell anyway}. We used the coffee table in our last house and LOVED it but just don’t have a place for it here. I told myself if the table didn’t sell then we meant to have it in our next place. 😉 And so I guess we are.
All the treasures that we didn’t sell were sent directly to our local thrift store that donates it’s profits to the local high school scholarship fund. IT FEELS SO GOOD to have all that stuff finally out of our garage. This week I’ll work on tidying up the garage and getting it shiny clean. Go Fight Win.
So far this year we have purged 223 items.
Learn to Crochet Mission Accomplished
Dote on My Husband Even More Than I Do Now.
My husband. He’s the greatest. But because I woke up late this morning his breakfast in bed will have to wait until this post is done. 😉 Ha! He’s such a good sport. Work has been kind of tough lately and he’s been putting in a lot of hours but we have a sort of “anniversary” vacation trip planned for later in the year so hopefully he can get some down time in.
Lose the Muffin Top. {again} Mission Accomplished
Wear out {most of} the clothing I already own.
Working on it. Though with the new turtlenecks from my mother and all those clothes from the $8.00 bag sale my closet feels full again.
Try 52 New Recipes
I made a new Quinoa salad this past week!
Read 52 Books
Last week I downloaded Hillbilly Elegy and Kiss Me Like a Stranger from Hoopla. I finished recommend Hillbilly Elegy and cannot recommend it enough. I am about halfway through Kiss Me Like a Stranger and so far so good. I don’t know about you, but I love it when the original author does the voice work for their own audio book. So much more feeling comes out of it.

I set a reading challenge of 12 books this year. One book a month. So far, I’m on task. Caught up over vacation!

We are working on getting rid of 2017 items in 2017. We are more than 3/4 of the way there!
Mavis Butterfield says
Wow! That’s great Sherri.

Mavis,
You can order your glasses online and save a bunch of money. We use Zenni Optical, but there’s a lot of choices. You just need your Rx and the distance, both are available from your eye doc.
Mavis Butterfield says
Thanks, I’ll check it out.

I was just about to say the same thing. I ALWAYS order me and my daughter an extra pair each year. We are both blind as a bat and it would be devastating if ours broke. We were on vacation this year and the screw fell out of her glasses. We always learn something new each year, this year it was – you can put the teeny tiny screw back with a pocket knife if you have the patience. Or if you are practically blind without your glasses. Next year, pack the extra glasses!

I rented the audio book for Hillbilly Elegy and loved it also. Hoopla is such a great, free resource.
My youngest grandson (10) and I listened to “A Walk in the Woods” by Bill Bryson in the car and he loved it. It is a book about hiking the Appalachian trail. Now every time he gets in the car he asks me if I have another book we can listen to. I just love sharing this experience with him.

Hey there, you haven’t updated on paying down the mortgage recently. Did you pay it off? I paid mine off in June and it feels amazing. Haven’t seen a huge change in bank balance because I had 2 big bills come in at the same time. August should see a huge uptick in my investment acts cuz i will be able to save those mortgage payments. My savings rate should go up to 70% now.
Mavis Butterfield says
Congrats on paying off your mortgage. I usually update that part of my goals around the first of the month when we make out payment. 🙂
Stephanie says
Hey Mavis,
I love your rughooked sunflowers. By chance would you ever do blog post of a tutorial on how you make them?
Mavis Butterfield says
I’ve started a post… Just need to finish it. I’m such a slacker.
