I came up with 12 goals I’d like to accomplish this year with the hopes of being able to cross one off my list per month to make them more manageable. I thought a great way to hold myself accountable to the things I want to accomplish this year would be to do a weekly update.
After all, we all need a little help staying motivated sometimes. Here’s how I am doing so far:
1. Clean, de-clutter and organize my entire home in 30 days or less. – So far this year I have cleaned my closet, organized my kitchen, decluttered my bathroom, organized my office, gutted the garage, and tackled the laundry room. Last week we cleaned the light fixtures. This week I am going to take the week off from cleaning and just relax {or try to anyway}.
2. Fit into the same jeans I wore 8 years ago when we moved into our house. – So. Late Sunday afternoon I got the marvelous idea to try on those jeans. And let’s just say it was not a pretty sight. Which was a good thing really because over the last 3 days I have only had 1 treat {an oatmeal raisin cookie} and have been eating pretty healthy. No shoving cake, slices of pie or handfuls of cookies in my mouth. And you know what? Besides being a wee bit crabby, I feel great.
Hopefully I can continue on this path long enough to fit in those jeans so I can mark it off my list.
3. Travel. So far this year The Girl and I have been to Boston, London, Paris and now Portland, Oregon. Canada is still on our list as well as a few other places. 🙂
4. Send my daughter to college without having a nervous breakdown thus spending a week in bed sobbing. She filled out some forms over the weekend so it’s kind of a done deal. She’s leaving me forever. 🙁 On a happier note, all of her friends {Miss Smarty Pants, Pocahontas, The Mathematician, the Sweetest Girl in the World and the Boy Scout} have all decided on where they are going and you know what? It’s pretty darn exciting.
5. Get 3 new teeth. – Nope, not yet.
6. Pay off my car. Done!
7. Finish the primitive folk art rug I started 4 years ago. – Ever since I made the decision to turn the giant rug I’ve been working on into a more manageable 4’x2′ front door rug, I feel like I am finally making some progress. The goal is to get it finished by June.
8. Family Day. Do one thing together as a family every Sunday. – It was Easter Sunday, so of course we all hung out together.
9. Secret Plan #1 – Working on it.
10. Secret Plan #2 – Still plotting away.
11. Secret Plan #3
12. Convince the HH we should buy a Salt Box Style House in Colonial Williamsburg. – Not going so well. But, it’s not stopping me from pinning stuff on to Pinterest.
13. Spend at least 1 hour a day working in my garden. – Lucy the Puggle dog and have been hanging out in the garden rain or shine. Everyday is an adventure for her. 😉
So there you have it, my goals for the new year.
How about YOU? How are your 2014 goals coming along?
~Mavis
P.S. YES, I know I wrote down 13 goals. I’m fairly certain I won’t be able to attain one of them. {gee, I wonder which one?} But I wanted to add it in there anyway because I believe in miracles.

My goals kind of got put on hold because I had to make an emergency trip out of state to where my mom was wintering, she had (surprise!) triple bypass surgery 2 1/2 months ago. Someone was needed to stay with her when she got out until she goes back home and I was the chosen one. She’s doing great and we head back in a week. Then it’s on to finishing the vacuum cover I’m crotcheting, the decluttering of last closet and spring cleaning that didn’t get done in my absence. I’ll let you know how it goes 😉 .

Those are some pretty good goals!
Firstly, don’t be too hard on yourself on the jeans. You look pretty slender, especially in photos. I understand the desire to be “where you were 8 years ago”, but it’s not 8 years ago. Are you at a healthy weight?
That said, my 2014 goal is to lose weight – the “I had a baby at 42” weight. I’m turning 44 this year. I have lost 17 lbs so far, expect to take the rest of the year to lose the next 15-20. I learned after baby #1 that my pre-kid weight (127) wasn’t sustainable post-kid, so I’m not sure if my in-between kid weight (132) is possible after the second kid.
But anyway, if I can lose 15 more pounds I will officially not be “overweight” anymore, so that’s pretty much the goal.
I also wanted to get organized, but it’s tough sharing a house with a husband, 8 year old boy, and toddler boy who thwart me at every turn. I’ve organized a few drawers. If I can lose the baby weight, I can organize clothing. Hard with a full time job.

Marcia go easy on yourself. I tell everyone my house would be perfectly organized if I lived alone! Congrats on the 17 lb loss.
Mavis you are an inspiration. The whole college thing is yucky and my kidlet is not even going out of state.
