I came up with 12 goals I’d like to accomplish this year with the hopes of being able to cross one off my list per month to make them more manageable. I thought a great way to hold myself accountable to the things I want to accomplish this year would be to do a weekly update.
After all, we all need a little help staying motivated sometimes. Here’s how I am doing so far:
1. Clean, de-clutter and organize my entire home in 30 days or less. – So far this year I have cleaned my closet, organized my kitchen, decluttered my bathroom, organized my office, gutted the garage, and tackled the laundry room. Last week I cleaned my garbage disposal and this week I think I’ll work on cleaning out our night stands. How does stuff pile up in there anyway?
2. Fit into the same jeans I wore 8 years ago when we moved into our house. – You are going to be so proud of me! For the past 10 days I’ve made it my mission to log at least 12,000 steps a day on my pedometer.
Well, not only have I been typically reaching 13,000 steps, but I’ve also lost a wee bit of that muffin top as well. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still totally there, but for I finally feel like I’m headed in the right direction.
3. Travel. So far this year The Girl and I have been to Boston, London, Paris and now Portland, Oregon. It’s official! Our summer vacation plans are set in stone. 🙂 I’m not ready to let the cat out of the bag just yet but let’s just say holy canolies, it’s going to be a wild summer full of travel. {Squeal!}
4. Send my daughter to college without having a nervous breakdown thus spending a week in bed sobbing. A few days ago I broke down sobbing over a handwritten note on a coffee cup. And you know what? I think it’s just going to be like that for a while around here and there is nothing I can do about it.
5. Get 3 new teeth. – I still have one more check up to go before I get the go ahead.
7. Finish this primitive folk art rug I started 4 years ago. It’s almost done!!!!!! One more star and a little more black and I’ll be finished. Wahooo!
8. Family Day. Do one thing together as a family every Sunday. Although we didn’t do anything super exciting, we all worked in the yard and went for a nice long drive. 🙂 Quality time doesn’t have to cost a penny!
9. Secret Plan #1 – Done! – I’ll tell you about it next month.
10. Secret Plan #2 Still plotting away. Making progress though. 😉
11. Secret Plan #3
12. Convince the HH we should buy a Salt Box Style House in Colonial Williamsburg. Still working on it.
13. Spend at least 1 hour a day working in my garden. Got weeds? So do I and let me tell you Bob, pulling weeds stinks! It’s not super high on my list of favorite things to do, but once I get this patch cleaned up, I’ll be a happy camper that’s for sure.
So there you have it, my goals for the new year.
How about YOU? How are your 2014 goals coming along?
~Mavis
P.S. YES, I know I wrote down 13 goals. I’m fairly certain I won’t be able to attain one of them. {gee, I wonder which one?} But I wanted to add it in there anyway because I believe in miracles.

Impressive! You are really knocking those goals out. On the weeding… if your yard is anything like mine, the weeds will be back as soon as you finish. It is a never ending job for me.

Our big goal was to pay off our house this year and we did it today!!!!!
