I came up with 12 goals I’d like to accomplish this year with the hopes of being able to cross one off my list per month to make them more manageable. I thought a great way to hold myself accountable to the things I want to accomplish this year would be to do a weekly update.
After all, we all need a little help staying motivated sometimes. Here’s how I am doing so far:
1. Clean, de-clutter and organize my entire home in 30 days or less. – So far this year I have cleaned my closet, organized my kitchen, decluttered my bathroom, organized my office, gutted the garage, and tackled the laundry room. Last week I cleaned out our night stands, and this week I’ll be getting everything organized for The Girl WHo Thinks She’s a Bird Graduation Party.
2. Fit into the same jeans I wore 8 years ago when we moved into our house. -Last week my goal was to log at least 12,000 steps a day on my pedometer. On Sunday my friend The Mad Scientist and I walked around Seattle for about 3 hours and by the end of the day I had walked over 29,000 steps! That’s about 17.2 miles. A new record for me. 🙂 The last time I walked that much was this spring when The Girl and I got lost in Paris.
Most days I’m able to reach my goal of 12,ooo steps, and as an added bonus, Lucy the Puggle dog gets a good workout too.
3. Travel. So far this year The Girl and I have been to Boston, London, Paris and now Portland, Oregon. It’s official! Our summer vacation plans are set in stone. The Girl and I will be heading to the East Coast the day after graduation on a super cool adventure. It involves chocolate. Lot’s and lots of chocolate and we are EXCITED!
4. Send my daughter to college without having a nervous breakdown thus spending a week in bed sobbing. The Girl and I have been so busy with end of the school year stuff {senior presentations, PROM, and getting ready for graduation} that I haven’t really had any time to think about it. Which is good. 🙂
5. Get 3 new teeth. – I still have one more check up to go before I get the go ahead.
7. Finish this primitive folk art rug I started 4 years ago. Almost done. I just need to fill in the last 2 stars and finish the edging and then I’ll be finished. Wahooo! Although, I’m not sure how I’m going to keep Lucy off of the rug once I’m finished. She’s convinced it’s hers.
8. Family Day. Do one thing together as a family every Sunday. Umm, the boys helped us unpack from our weekend in Seattle, does that count?
9. Secret Plan #1 – Done! – I’ll tell you about it next month.
10. Secret Plan #2 Still plotting away. Making progress though. 😉
11. Secret Plan #3
12. Convince the HH we should buy a Salt Box Style House in Colonial Williamsburg. Still working on it. 😉
13. Spend at least 1 hour a day working in my garden. I finally finished pulling up all those weeds that were in last years pumpkin patch. Now, if I can just stay on top of them through the end of summer I’ll be happy.
So there you have it, my goals for the new year.
How about YOU? How are your 2014 goals coming along?
~Mavis
P.S. YES, I know I wrote down 13 goals. I’m fairly certain I won’t be able to attain one of them. {gee, I wonder which one?} But I wanted to add it in there anyway because I believe in miracles.

Great job Mavis, you’re awesome! How about planting a cover crop of some kind (like red clover) in the pumpkin patch that you can just turn under next spring to improve your soil. Then you wouldn’t have to work so hard and would have more time with your daughter. That’s a Win/Win!

Thanks Mary, I’m almost there! 🙂

My kids think Hershey is the BEST place on earth! Every year we take a mini vacay there – super close to us here in PA. Hope you enjoy as much as they do.
