I came up with 12 goals I’d like to accomplish this year with the hopes of being able to cross one off my list per month to make them more manageable. I thought a great way to hold myself accountable to the things I want to accomplish this year would be to do a weekly update.
After all, we all need a little help staying motivated sometimes. Here’s how I am doing so far:
1. Clean, de-clutter and organize my entire home in 30 days or less. – So far this year I have cleaned my closet, organized my kitchen, decluttered my bathroom, organized my office, gutted the garage, and tackled the laundry room. This week I plan on tackling the closet under the stairs.
2. Fit into the same jeans I wore 8 years ago when we moved into our house. I lost the jeans! I was going to try them on yesterday but I couldn’t find them. Weird. Maybe it’s a sign.
3. Travel. So far this year The Girl and I have been to Boston, London, Paris, Portland, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia and now Victoria B.C.
Seriously. Hasn’t smoking been banned on airplanes for like forever? And the seat belt demonstration. You’d think by now most of us would know how to use one.
Yet oddly enough, I sat in the emergency exit row on my red eye to the east coast last week and the flight attendant didn’t even bother to tell me how to open the door in case of an emergency or remind me that I was in an emergency row. Sheesh. What happened to priorities?
4. Send my daughter to college without having a nervous breakdown thus spending a week in bed sobbing. I think the key is going to be to STAY BUSY and I’ve got a plan on how I can do that.
5. Get 3 new teeth. – Headed to a new dentist today. Wish me luck. Hopefully she won’t want to pull out all my teeth and start over. Ha!
6. Pay off my car. Done!
7. Finish this primitive folk art rug I started 4 years ago. Finished! It took me 6 months but I’m done.
The turkey rug I started a few weeks ago is coming along nicely. Normally I would have started hooking the turkey portion by now but I just have not had the time to sit down and plan out the color scheme for it yet. As long as I get it done by Thanksgiving I’ll be happy. 🙂
8. Do something together as a family ever Sunday. Cleaning up dog vomit at midnight. Good times.
9. Secret Plan #1 – Done! – I’ll tell you about it in August.
10. Secret Plan #2 Making progress.
11. Secret Plan #3
12. Convince the HH we should buy a Salt Box Style House in Colonial Williamsburg. Done!
Sometimes you don’t know what you’re looking for until it hits you smack dab in the face. Thanks Heather! 😉 We didn’t buy the house on Butterfield Lane or one in Colonial Williamsburg but I did find us a house. Keep your fingers crossed people, keep ’em crossed.
13. Spend at least 1 hour a day working in my garden.
Our lilies are blooming and man oh man are they fragrant. I picked a couple of stalks for the kitchen table and holy smokes it smells like a floral shop now. 🙂 I don’t know about you, but I just love this time of year. Every week there is something new to harvest. Life is good.
So there you have it, my goals for the new year.
How about YOU? How are your 2014 goals coming along?

P.S. YES, I know I wrote down 13 goals. I’m fairly certain I won’t be able to attain one of them. {gee, I wonder which one?} But I wanted to add it in there anyway because I believe in miracles.

Goal #12 Oh my goodness Mavis – the east coast with real winters! See that the house has electric heat, hope you checked out past winter usage rates. And close to Maine! Lived there, and would love to move back. A gal can dream, can’t she?
Welcome!

Congrats! I had a feeling that Goal #4 was the one that you wouldn’t be able to accomplish and that you were being a little sneaky about #12 🙂

I grew up in that part of NH, how fun! Good luck on getting it, and enjoy 🙂 Summers in New England are beautiful, and if you can hire the neighbor’s kid to shovel for you, the winters aren’t bad, either!

I know you have had your heart set on that Salt Box House but I’m hoping you found one in the Northwest!!! Hate to think of losing your NW garden expertise.

Great post. I better get on some decluttering myself. We are hosting a wedding in our back yard at the end of August so time is ticking. Hope you enjoyed Portland, Oregon. I am grateful to call it home.

Whoa- are you moving to the NE? That’s my neck of the woods!! You know it’s bloody cold here, right? Like North Pole cold. Really cold for like 19-47 months each year. Give or take. Summer is amazing though. But winters part 1, 2 and sometimes 3 (can you tell I am dreading winter coming this year?) are brutal.

No not moving, just getting a vacation home. 🙂 I will have to work on the HH a little more… I’d love to end up on the east coast permanently someday.

Virginia is great – all seasons, if that is where you are headed. Live here, not a native, but have been here for 25 years and the seasons are great. If you are headed for Williamsburg area you will have beach and mountains within hours of each other, so you have a variety pack and in fall you will have the beautiful leaf show where they turn golden or red, something to see. Look forward to your adventure…whatever it may be.
