I came up with 12 goals I’d like to accomplish this year with the hopes of being able to cross one off my list per month to make them more manageable. I thought a great way to hold myself accountable to the things I want to accomplish this year would be to do a weekly update.
After all, we all need a little help staying motivated sometimes. Here’s how I am doing so far:
1. Clean, de-clutter and organize my entire home in 30 days or less. – So far this year I cleaned my closet, organized my kitchen, decluttered my bathroom, organized my office, gutted the garage, and tackled the laundry room. But that was at the old house. 😉
My new game plan is to have everything unpacked and put away by mid December {the remodel is suppose to be wrapping up towards the end of November} so I don’t have to stress about having an unorganized house anymore.
2. Fit into the same jeans I wore 8 years ago when we moved into our {now old} house.
I had all but given up hope on fitting into my old jeans until my friend Wendy talked me into trying an It Works Ultimate Body Applicator. Have you tried one of these yet?
The photos above are of a lady who tried a wrap in June and had great 72 hour results. Recently she bought a box of wraps and wrapped every 72 hours. This is after her fourth wrap!!!!! Do they work?! Umm, I think so! Ding, ding, ding… I think we might have a winner here folks and I’ll be able to fit into those pants by the end of the year after all. 😉
I plan on “wrapping” this afternoon, and will post before and after pictures of me in my old jeans in next weeks edition of 12 Goals for the New Year. Stay tuned.
3. Travel. So far this year I have been to Boston, London, Paris, Portland, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia and Victoria B.C.
4. Send my daughter to college without having a nervous breakdown thus spending a week in bed sobbing. Done! She’s having a blast and lucky for me she likes talking/texting daily. 🙂 Life is good.
5. Get 3 new teeth. – The saga continues. Out of all the goals I set for myself this year this was the one I thought for sure I’d be able to mark off my list. But since my dental insurance is maxed out for the year and I would like to get my daughters room remodeled before she comes home from college for winter break, I will probably push getting my 3 new teeth to January of 2015. I know, right?
6. Pay off my car. Done! I LOVE Volvo wagons, and I’ll probably still be driving one when I’m 75.
7. Finish this primitive folk art rug I started 4 years ago. Finished! It took me 6 months but I’m done {I’m working on a second one and I hope to have it finished by Thanksgiving}.
8. Do something together as a family ever Sunday. Lately our Sundays have been revolving around unpacking, putting furniture together, painting, or watching the Seahawks play on t.v. Hopefully in about a month things will settle down and get back to our usual laid back Sunday adventures.
9. Secret Plan #1 – Sell our house. It felt like it took us forever, but we were finally able to downsize both our home and yard and let me tell you Bob, it feels good. Really, really good.
10. Secret Plan #2 Buy a smaller house. Although our new home is not in the area we were originally looking in, by downsizing we were able to cut or mortgage payment in HALF and pay for the remodel out of pocket… So in the end, I think it all worked out for the best.
11. Secret Plan #3 – Working on it. 😉
12. Convince the HH we should buy a Salt Box Style House in Colonial Williamsburg. Done! We didn’t buy a house in Colonial Williamsburg, but I did find us a vacation house on the east coast and we LOVE it. I need to post more pictures of my “set it and forget it” vegetable garden over there.
13. Spend at least 1 hour a day working in my garden. Because of all the workers in and out of our house the past two weeks I haven’t been able to get as much gardening done as I would have liked too, but the HH has promised to pick me up a truckload of dirt this weekend so look out world… the fall and winter gardening season is about to begin. 😉
So there you have it, my goals for the new year.
How about YOU? How are your 2014 goals coming along?
~Mavis
P.S. YES, I know I wrote down 13 goals. I’m fairly certain I won’t be able to attain one of them. {gee, I wonder which one?} But I wanted to add it in there anyway because I believe in miracles.

hmm…It doesn’t make sense that you could buy a vacation home back east, but can’t afford 3 new teeth
I think there’s something you aren’t telling us.

I have a budget… for everything. The teeth will cost about $6,500. And right now, I would really rather spend that money on remodeling our house. We were not planning on buying an outdated house. But as it turned out, we did. Budgets are great, and that’s why I’m sticking with mine. By waiting until January to get my teeth fixed I will be able to save the $1,500 that I would have had to pay out of pocket {the amount insurance will pay}. Instead, I’d rather use that money and fix up my daughters bathroom before she comes home for the holidays.

I’m interested to see how those “wraps” work on you because I’d be interested in purchasing them if they do work!
Mavis Butterfield says
I know, right?! I will definitely keep you posted.
Angela says
Me too!! I’ve seen the pictures but I would love to get a trusted opinion on them!

I can’t wait for Mavis’ journey to begin with the wraps! They’ve been such a great jump start for me when I plateaued and then they helped me get back to my pre-baby size after my 4th son 🙂 If you ladies get a chance go to my page and read my story.
