I came up with 12 goals I’d like to accomplish this year with the hopes of being able to cross one off my list per month to make them more manageable. I thought a great way to hold myself accountable to the things I want to accomplish this year would be to do a weekly update.
After all, we all need a little help staying motivated sometimes. Here’s how I am doing so far:
1. Clean, de-clutter and organize my entire home in 30 days or less. – So far this year I cleaned my closet, organized my kitchen, decluttered my bathroom, organized my office, gutted the garage, and tackled the laundry room. And then we moved. 😉
While I was a away the boys were kind enough to let the mail and packages pile up in the {rather empty} living room so it looks like I have myself a wee little project for today. Hopefully there’s something good in there.
2. Fit into the same jeans I wore 8 years ago when we moved into our {now old} house. Mission Accomplished! You can see the before and after photo HERE.
I’m not sure if it was because of the It Works Ultimate Body Applicator {I wrapped twice} or working as Chino the Handyman’s sidekick for the past month, but the muffin top is gone. Let’s hope she doesn’t come back!
3. Travel. So far this year I have been to Boston, London, Paris, Portland, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, North Carolina,Virginia and Victoria B.C. Would you believe I have no current travel plans? How can that be? Better start scheming.
4. Send my daughter to college without having a nervous breakdown thus spending a week in bed sobbing. What’s that you say? A week with The Girl sitting around in our pj’s, baking cookies and watching movies? Heck yeah, It was the best week ever. 🙂
5. Get 3 new teeth. – Well, no teeth fell out while I was on vacation… so that was nice. 😉 I have an appointment with the dentist for next week to repair the took I broke eating a granola bar 2 weeks ago. After that’s all done I’ll schedule my new appointment for get 3 shiny new teeth in 2015 when the insurance deductible kicks in again. Good times.
6. Pay off my car. Done!
7. Finish this primitive folk art rug I started 4 years ago. Finished! It took me 6 months but I’m done.
I spotted this primitive rug on Pinterest and I think it would be PERFECT for my new kitchen. The only problem is I think it will take me a good 9 -12 months to make it. I like this one too.
8. Do something together as a family every Sunday. I was out of town this past Sunday but the HH and Monkey Boy installed a toilet together {Ha! Total male bonding} and The Girl and I baked cookies.
9. Secret Plan #1 – Sell our house. It felt like it took us forever, but we were finally able to downsize both our home and yard and let me tell you Bob, it feels good. Really, really good. Holy crackers! That was a huge kitchen, wasn’t it? And all those cupboards…
10. Secret Plan #2 Buy a smaller house. Done!
11. Secret Plan #3 – Working on it. 😉
12. Convince the HH we should buy a Salt Box Style House in Colonial Williamsburg. Done! We didn’t buy a house in Colonial Williamsburg, but I did find us a vacation house on the east coast and we LOVE it.
13. Spend at least 1 hour a day working in my garden. I had a blast last week digging up root vegetables in my East Coast garden. We roasted some, gave some away and my daughter took some back to school with her. It was AWESOME!
How about YOU? How are your 2014 goals coming along?
~Mavis
P.S. YES, I know I wrote down 13 goals. I’m fairly certain I won’t be able to attain one of them. {gee, I wonder which one?} But I wanted to add it in there anyway because I believe in miracles.

The anticipation is building and building….what could Secret Project #3 be? The year is almost done. Times a ticking missy:) I can hardly wait a minute longer. What will Ms Mavis do this time? Moving and buying a new house(s) are pretty major. Can you top that?
