I came up with 12 goals I’d like to accomplish this year with the hopes of being able to cross one off my list per month to make them more manageable. I thought a great way to hold myself accountable to the things I want to accomplish this year would be to do a weekly update.
After all, we all need a little help staying motivated sometimes. Here’s how I am doing so far:
1. Clean, de-clutter and organize my entire home in 30 days or less. – So far this year I cleaned my closet, organized my kitchen, decluttered my bathroom, organized my office, gutted the garage, and tackled the laundry room. I thought I would never get all the boxes from our old house unpacked, but I’m happy to say… I finally did. 🙂 I was happy to find my favorite garden books and stacked them on a little side table behind the front door. Yay for little victories!
2. Fit into the same jeans I wore 8 years ago when we moved into our {now old} house. Mission Accomplished! You can see the before and after photo HERE.
I’m not sure if it was because of the It Works Ultimate Body Applicator {I wrapped twice} or working as Chino the Handyman’s sidekick for the past month, but the muffin top is gone. Let’s hope she doesn’t come back!
3. Travel. So far this year I have been to Boston, London, Paris, Portland, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, North Carolina,Virginia and Victoria B.C.
4. Send my daughter to college without having a nervous breakdown thus spending a week in bed sobbing. She’s coming home this weekend. wAHOOOOO!
5. Get 3 new teeth. – I’m headed to the dentist later today to see about getting my chipped tooth repaired and to schedule an appointment for next year to get my 3 new teeth. I’m kind of bummed I wasn’t able to get them “installed” this year but of well. Life goes on.
6. Pay off my car. Done!
7. Finish this primitive folk art rug I started 4 years ago. Finished! It took me 6 months but I’m done. Over the weekend I unpacked all my rug hooking wool and stacked it in the craft room closet. I’m not sure what I’m going to make next, maybe something for the kitchen or the laundry room. We’ll see.
8. Do something together as a family every Sunday. We bought a new vanity for The Girl’s room and managed to haul it upstairs but the HH still needs to add the baseboard and then install the sucker. Hopefully soon. 😉 We still need to remove the mirror and paint in there too. Gaaa!
9. Secret Plan #1 – Sell our house. It felt like it took us forever, but we were finally able to downsize both our home and yard and let me tell you Bob, it feels good. Really, really good. Holy crackers! That was a huge kitchen, wasn’t it? And all those cupboards…
10. Secret Plan #2 Buy a smaller house. Done!
11. Secret Plan #3 – Working on it. 😉
12. Convince the HH we should buy a Salt Box Style House in Colonial Williamsburg. Done! We didn’t buy a house in Colonial Williamsburg, but I did find us a vacation house on the east coast and we LOVE it.
13. Spend at least 1 hour a day working in my garden. I was breaking down boxes in the garage and was shocked to find my 4 boxes of daffodil bulbs still in their boxes. How the heck did that happen? I ended up planting then along side the house {all 230 of them} where my perennial flower garden will be installed next summer. I also did a little garden clean up {although it’s hard to tell}.
How about YOU? How are your 2014 goals coming along?
~Mavis
P.S. YES, I know I wrote down 13 goals. I’m fairly certain I won’t be able to attain one of them. {gee, I wonder which one?} But I wanted to add it in there anyway because I believe in miracles.

Hey Mavis,
I have small shelves as part of my upper kitchen cabinets – just like your new ones…AND…I’d like to squeeze some books on there like I saw in a recent instagram photo you posted. Can you tell me where you bought the super simple bookends that keep the books up there? Thanks
Mavis Butterfield says
