I came up with 12 goals I’d like to accomplish this year with the hopes of being able to cross one off my list per month to make them more manageable. I thought a great way to hold myself accountable to the things I want to accomplish this year would be to do a weekly update.
After all, we all need a little help staying motivated sometimes. Here’s how I am doing so far:
1. Clean, de-clutter and organize my entire home in 30 days or less. Done!
I cleaned my closet, decluttered my bathroom, organized my office, gutted the garage, and tackled the laundry room. And now, because I am a freak and cannot sit still, my next project is painting the trim on our house. Giddy up! Can we get three cheers for ADHD please?
2. Fit into the same jeans I wore 8 years ago when we moved into our house. Well, I tried them on yesterday. Should I end it there? Okay, so yes I tried the pants on, and yes I can button them. However, it’s not a pretty sight {think major muffin top}.So my goal this week is to walk 100,000 steps {HOLY COW MAN} recording them on my handy dandy pedometer along the way. That’s 14K + steps a day. We’ll see if I can do it.
3. Travel. – I pulled out my passport the other day for my upcoming trip with The Girl Who Thinks She’s a Bird and noticed I only have 2 blank pages left!!!! How freakin’ cool is that? My passport expires in 2015 and I think I may have to order a few additional pages before renewing it. Wahoooooo! Sandra Bullock would be so proud!
4. Send my daughter to college without having a nervous breakdown thus spending a week in bed sobbing. It’s not going to happen, is it? I might as well cave in right now and find some cool jammies and stock up on Kleenex and Ben & Jerry’s Chunky Monkey ice cream.
5. Get 3 new teeth. 😉 – Looks like everything will be healed up by May. Gee I can’t wait to shell out the price of a used car for some teeth. Dreams really do come true.
6. Pay off my car. – Workin’ on it. Here’s a dorky video from our trip through Europe when we picked it up.
7. Finish a primitive folk art rug I started 4 years ago. Instead of doing any actual rug hooking last week, I instead ordered a bunch of wool. It seems the rug hooking bug has bitten me again and I know have 4 projects going all at once.
8. Family Day. Do one thing together as a family every Sunday. – Major fail last week. I have no excuse.
9. Secret Plan #1 – Still working on it.
10. Secret Plan #2
11. Secret Plan #3
12. Convince the HH we should buy a Salt Box Style House in Colonial Williamsburg. The more I look into actually living in Colonial Williamsburg the more I am thinking it might not be such a good idea after all. I had no idea there were so mnay rules!
13. Spend at least 1 hour a day working in my garden. Now that the snow has all melted I can get a few projects finished. Next on the list, clear out the garden beds alongside the greenhouse.
So there you have it, my goals for the new year.
How about YOU? How are your 2014 goals coming along?
~Mavis
P.S. YES, I know I wrote down 13 goals. I’m fairly certain I won’t be able to attain one of them. {gee, I wonder which one?} But I wanted to add it in there anyway because I believe in miracles.

Oh Mavis you are so funny! Is this self diagnosed ADHD? How in the world do you have so much energy? Do you sleep like 3 hours per night or what? What does your poor hubby think of your extensive energy? Have a great Valentines Day!
Mavis Butterfield says
Self diagnosed, YES. I sleep about 5 – 6 hours a night. I’m getting better, before it was only 4 hours. 🙂 My husband totally ignores me at this point. 🙂

I live in Va Bch, just a short drive from Williamsburg. While this is the best place I have ever lived, I think your gardening weather is better where you are now. Lots are very tiny, too!, and property is freaky expensive! Living in a condo now but I dream of the day I can have a house and plan to tear up the whole backyard for a garden like yours. Snow in the winter, and have seen summer temps over 115 degrees here!

Really, what is a “typical” day look like for you? I’m crazy impressed with how much you get done and do, can you share?

Hey Mavis!
I enjoy your blog solo much! I look forward to checking in everyday after work.
About your goal to send your girl to school: you can stop sweating this right now! My husband and I are making our last tuition payment for the twin on the five year plan. Yes, I said twins. I was also anticipating a nervous breakdown until we met with a fafsa advisor. We managed, between scholarships, grants, loans and our contribution. If we can do it, anyone can. Both studied art, yes, art! Their school had scholarship money(not just for athletes and scholars). They also received some nice community scholarship money. College is obscenely expensive, but you can’t lose sleep over it. You can do it!

I second the comment above, I would also love to see a typical day breakdown for Mavis aka wonderwoman!

Hi Mavis,
I didn’t make any resolutions this year. A few years ago, I decided to eat more unprocessed food and to use products that are less chemical based, so I’ve continued doing that. I ended up on your blog by way of your soft strub recipe. Great tips you are sharing over here!!
I also want to paint my New York City apartment, myself, sometime this year. You’d think that isn’t a big deal, but because one can’t empthy a space by moving furniture into another room, it is a challenge. That’s the reason I hired a painter the last time I needed to paint.
