I came up with 12 goals I’d like to accomplish this year with the hopes of being able to cross one off my list per month to make them more manageable. I thought a great way to hold myself accountable to the things I want to accomplish this year would be to do a weekly update.
After all, we all need a little help staying motivated sometimes. Here’s how I am doing so far:
1. Clean, de-clutter and organize my entire home in 30 days or less. Done!
So far this year I have cleaned my closet, decluttered my bathroom, organized my office, gutted the garage, and tackled the laundry room. This week I’m going to take a break from cleaning and play instead.
2. Fit into the same jeans I wore 8 years ago when we moved into our house. Ha! This week I’m going to stuff my face with pastries instead of worrying about how many steps I take with my pedometer strapped to my hip. 😉
3. Travel.
You may have noticed there was no Morning with Mavis yesterday and today and I had a great excuse… The Girl and I were on the red eye flight to Boston to start the first leg of our annual February vacation. Our first stop was to Sturbridge, Massachusetts. I’ll share more about our trip soon but let me just say this… I LOVE MASSACHUSETTS!
4. Send my daughter to college without having a nervous breakdown thus spending a week in bed sobbing.
5. Get 3 new teeth.
7. Finish the primitive folk art rug I started 4 years ago. This week I’ll be working on a smaller Bird and Nest Rug. My plan is to work on it while waiting for various flights and while we travel on public transportation.
8. Family Day. Do one thing together as a family every Sunday. We picked the HH up from the airport {Lucy came along as well} and then we all had dinner together. Not super exciting, but at least we were together.
9. Secret Plan #1 – Working on it.
10. Secret Plan #2
11. Secret Plan #3
12. Convince the HH we should buy a Salt Box Style House in Colonial Williamsburg. Move over Colonial Williamsburg and hello Sturbridge, Massachusetts. Wowza! What a town. I’ll write a little more about it later but holy cow man, I would move there in a heartbeat.
13. Spend at least 1 hour a day working in my garden. Lucy and I worked pretty hard in the garden last week harvesting lettuce and cleaning up a few garden spaces. Oh, and we also got our tomato seeds planted as well. I’d say that’s pretty good for February, wouldn’t you?
So there you have it, my goals for the new year.
How about YOU? How are your 2014 goals coming along?
~Mavis
P.S. YES, I know I wrote down 13 goals. I’m fairly certain I won’t be able to attain one of them. {gee, I wonder which one?} But I wanted to add it in there anyway because I believe in miracles.

I grew up in Massachusetts (not far from Sturbridge) and LOVE it, too! Most of my family still lives there.
I’ve been to Sturbridge Village many times – sometimes on field trips with schools- and sometimes when we have visited.
Can’t wait to see your pictures! 🙂

Hey on #7
You could hook a heck of a lot faster if you got a real rug hooking frame. Proper tension speeds things up. (Lots of nice shops here in New England, since you are here) (I use to own a rug hooking shop) It’s call Wool and Goods, in Rollinsford NH.
Good luck and happy hooking

I’ve been thinking about getting a lap frame but I’m note sure which one to buy. What would you recommend?

http://www.rughookingart.com/pittsburghrughookingframe.htm,
I like it because it collapses flat, and you can protect the gripper strips with the bottom of the case when it is folded up. But it is pricey (250ish)
There are lots of less expensive frames on etsy. (80-125) Gripper strips make it easy to position the rug, but add price. If you aren’t sure you will do a second rug, a lap frame without strips that uses tacks is still a big improvement over a hoop. (45-60)
I’ve never owned a frame with a ball joint support instead of square frame, but some people swear by them. Make sure the frame you buy is made for rug hooking, not quilting.
The best thing about a frame, is that it will improve your tension and speed your hooking up.

I live right near Sturbridge. It is a great place, but MA is better to visit than live in.

I live just south of Sturbridge in Woodstock CT.
You will love this area. We are close to Boston MA and Mystic CT.
