I’m going to exchange it at the bank for dollars and add it to the “pastry fund” for our next adventure.

Make 12 Totally British Recipes In The AGA.
No new recipes in the AGA this past week {I’m still on freezer cleanout mode} but the HH found this cauliflower, squash and broccoli cheese recipe in Mary Berry’s AGA cookbook so as soon as I see some butternut squash pop up at the local farmstand I think I’ll make it.

Revisit An Old Friend. FAIL
Maybe next year?
Grow 1,000 Pounds of Vegetables In The Religious Family Sized Garden FAIL
With all the rain we had this summer, the religious family sized garden was a total bust. BUT, last night I dug up a few potatoes for tonight’s dinner so at least there’s SOMETHING to harvest this year.
Also, the tomatoes I planted in the raised garden beds seem to be doing okay as well. We’ll see how things pan out.
Empty The Canning Cupboard / Fill The Canning Cupboard
Canning is pretty much non-existent this year due to the lack of homegrown vegetables. I don’t know why, but it’s more fun to can stuff you’ve grown yourself rather than produce you have to buy.
Does anyone else feel that way?
Make $500 Selling Plants, Flowers or Vegetables {I’ve made $92 so far.}
I don’t have any plants left to sell so I’ve starting hooking a few for my Etsy shop instead. 🙂

{8} 6-packs of corn @ $3 each = $24.00
{4} 6-packs of basil @ $3 each = $12
{9} 6- packs of pea starts @$2 each {then I upped the price to $3} = $24.00
{4} Daffodil bouquets @$3 & $4 each = $14.00

Goals already accomplished 2023:
Go On A Solo Adventure. Done
A solo adventure to Fair Isle. I don’t think I could have picked a more unique, isolated and cozy spot to spend a few weeks. I’m already dreaming of going back.
Take An Adult Education Class Done
The Girl and I took a 3 day British Baking Classics course at King Arthur Flour in Norwich, Vermont and had a good time. My favorite thing we made was the sticky toffee pudding.
Set Aside 200 Items For A Yard Sale DONE!
The yard sale was a great success! The Duck Lady and I were both able to get rid of a lot of items we didn’t want and as an added bonus, I only had 1 box of stuff to drop off at the thrift store. Yee-Haw!
How about YOU? How are you coming along with your goals for this year?
~Mavis
Robin R. says
Mavis, the wreath is beautiful! I’m glad you are keeping one and the other will sell quickly. I also love the sunflower you made. You are so talented!
Nancy says
The wreath is wonderful! Have you thought more about putting the craft room in the basement?
Jess says
Did I miss what the “revisit an old friend” was? You’ve been waiting for one more thing for awhile but what was it?
Kayla says
I need to know too!
Lynn from NC Outer Banks says
The wreath is lovely! I’d love to see a tutorial. I’ll be more intentional about searching for driftwood on our beach so I can make one too!
Debbie says
Revisit and old friend has been waiting for one more item for a long time—now it’s a fail. What was it/why failed?
Amy says
I have to know! lol
Teri says
Ditto! Oh Mavis please don’t make us wait another year to find out what it is/was 🙁
Glenda Rainbolt says
Inquiring minds need to know. We have been waiting for that ONE thing….. What happened?
KC says
… why does the HH want carpet? Easier to lay it down than alternate flooring options? More homey? I don’t understand why you would put carpet in a *craft room* so I am curious as to his thought processes here.
Elise in the SF Bay Area says
I’m curious about the old friend too :/ Bummer.
I’m all in with you about not wanting to buy things to preserve/can! Maybe part of it comes from living in California, where we can get something fresh from not too far away pretty much 365 days a year, but I’m right there with you!!
I DID make your heirloom salsa last week from some tomatoes from my mom’s garden, and it’s SO good!! I’m hoping for more tomatoes from her in the next week or so for another batch (it was just enough for 1/2 batch, and by the time I gave a half pint to her, I only had 2 pints left, most of which is already gone…) I did buy cilantro and peppers for that, but it was SO worth it!!!
SueD says
I have 2 Viking Huskylock 936 overlocker/coverstitch machines, which I love. They are getting old, and more importantly, it’s becoming difficult to find parts if needed. I did some research, and bought a Juki MO-654DE. It’s a workhorse. I’ve overlocked 3 layers of bull denim with no problems, then went on to sew a very lightweight fabric, also now problem. It’s not a fancy computerised machine, unlike my 936s, nor is it self threading, but I’ve dot found either to be a problem. If I had the room, I would get a Juki industrial machine.
Joely says
That wreath is gorgeous. You have amazing talent.
Wendy M says
Another reader curious about the failed old friend visit.
I was completely stumped before on my guesses. At first I thought it might be Mrs. Hillbilly but now I’m wondering if it didn’t have something to do with chickens. 🙂
Theresa Vondra says
Mavis, you have to tell us what the old friend goal was!!! We’ve been waiting all year!!! It’s killing meeee!!!! please
Cathy H. says
You should sell oyster shells! I bet those would fly out of your Etsy shop. Our garden here in the midwest was a bust as well. Too many kinds of beetles and way too hot. Next year!
