The HH planted grass seed in the religious family sized garden and now it’s back to looking like a field. There was so much rain this summer there wasn’t much else we could do with the spot.
Empty The Canning Cupboard / Fill The Canning Cupboard
We cracked open another 3 jars this past week. Asparagus, jam and a spiced tomato sauce.
Make $500 Selling Plants, Flowers or Vegetables {I made $95} FAIL
It rained so hard yesterday that it flattened my mums on the front porch. 🙁 I guess this means I’ll be enjoying cut flowers in the house this week.
The year of rain. That’s what this year has been. Something tells me we are going to get a LOT of snow this winter.
NOTE: I gave up trying to sell plants and vegetables at The Duck Lady’s farmstand this year but there are still a few flowers left in the garden to pick so I am enjoying them on my kitchen counter.
This year I sold:
{3} rosemary plants @$3.00 each = $9.00
{8} 6-packs of corn @ $3 each = $24.00
{4} 6-packs of basil @ $3 each = $12
{9} 6- packs of pea starts @$2 each {then I upped the price to $3} = $24.00
{4} Daffodil bouquets @$3 & $4 each = $14.00
{4} Chives @$2 each = $8.00
{1} Basil @$2 each = $2.00
{1} Mint @$2.00 each = $2.00

Goals already accomplished 2023:
Go On A Solo Adventure. Done
A solo adventure to Fair Isle. I don’t think I could have picked a more unique, isolated and cozy spot to spend a few weeks. I’m already dreaming of going back.
Take An Adult Education Class Done
The Girl and I took a 3 day British Baking Classics course at King Arthur Flour in Norwich, Vermont and had a good time. My favorite thing we made was the sticky toffee pudding.
Set Aside 200 Items For A Yard Sale DONE!
The yard sale was a great success! The Duck Lady and I were both able to get rid of a lot of items we didn’t want and as an added bonus, I only had 1 box of stuff to drop off at the thrift store. Yee-Haw!
How about YOU? How are you coming along with your goals for this year?
~Mavis
Holley says
Maybe the mums will perk back up when the sun comes out?
Mavis Butterfield says
I think the leaves/flowers are so heavy from the rain… it would take a while. We’ll see. Maybe I’ll give them a few days before I cut them.
Honeybee says
I started drinking London Fogs on your suggestion.
Now I need to know about the best of your life London Fog. Please share.
Mel says
We have had an insane couple of months. I went back to work, was told I had cancer (and then thankfully confirmed through a biopsy I did *NOT*), developed a massive infection from the biopsy that took three weeks to diagnose (diagnostics clearly not my doctor’s strong suit), started physical therapy with our one year old for sensory issues (and found out that’s why woke up every 20 minutes at night, etc.), and dealt with some next-level insanity at work (my pay was delayed by 8 weeks).
So, I don’t really know what my goal is at this point in the year. I think at this point I’m just trying to catch my breath. If things ever settle back down, I might clean the house or plant broccoli in the garden, but at this point, having nothing on fire at the end of the day is kind of a win!
Heidi N. says
Thankful that you do not have cancer, Mel! It does sound like the last few months have been crazy. Prayers that things will settle down for you.
Laura says
Welcome to the wonderfully wild world of parenting!
Jam says
That sounds exhausting Mel. Hang in there. Some days (even months and years) are just about survival. You have so much going on, sending good thoughts to you and your sweet babe.
Nancy D says
I’m guessing a trip to the Puget Sound area!
Kathy says
What if you converted T Rex to a lamp? Maybe then it would sell
