We were planning to head to Cape Cod this coming week but I gave the HH my travel cooties and now he’s sick so we’re not going because someone has to be well enough to take care of the puggle princess. To say she is a high maintenance dog would be a HUGE understatement.
Maybe we’ll go next week?

Goals already accomplished 2023:
Go On A Solo Adventure. Done
A solo adventure to Fair Isle. I don’t think I could have picked a more unique, isolated and cozy spot to spend a few weeks. I’m already dreaming of going back.
Take An Adult Education Class Done
The Girl and I took a 3 day British Baking Classics course at King Arthur Flour in Norwich, Vermont and had a good time. My favorite thing we made was the sticky toffee pudding.
Set Aside 200 Items For A Yard Sale DONE!
The yard sale was a great success! The Duck Lady and I were both able to get rid of a lot of items we didn’t want and as an added bonus, I only had 1 box of stuff to drop off at the thrift store. Yee-Haw!
How about YOU? How are you coming along with your goals for this year?
~Mavis
J in OH-IO says
Mavis,
You are so amazing with the amount of energy you have and all the things you get done! Way to go! You are an inspiration on setting and completing goals- thanks for being so motivating!
This week I crushed some goals and others not so much:
I push mowed for 2.5 hours (getting in about 14, 000 steps that day- yay!)
sprayed the house siding with cleaner- dreaded chore, but looks so much better now
elliptical for 2 days (my goal is 5 days, but I was sore so I had to listen to my body) The elliptical is a new goal to have more energy and to lower anxiety so I am keeping track of it on my calendar to see if I can make regular exercise a new life changing habit.
Started to decluttered a box from the basement (need to make more progress on this and finish the box this week and move on to the next.) Decluttering goal has to really be amped up and really focus on getting rid of stuff. Very hard to get rid of stuff.
Love your blog- it is the only one I read every day- thank you for all you do! Have a great week everybody -Happy Fall Y’All!
Hawaii Planner says
J – once you get used to the elliptical, I think you’ll find it an awesome low impact workout. I workout every day, and the elliptical is perfect for the days you want to do something, but need a lower energy workout. I read on my Kindle while I’m working out & love it. (The other days, I run, hike or do an Orange Theory workout class.)
Ashley Bananas says
I echo this reply. Once your muscles get used to the elliptical it becomes very pleasant to do. Keep it up, your body will adjust.
Hawaii Planner says
Gorgeous photos this week, Mavis! Love the pumpkin pics, and the Fair Isle hats.
Mel says
I wonder if you’re coming at the T-Rex from the wrong angle. There’s a seaglass competition around here where people enter pieces of seaglass and river glass they’ve found. Maybe there’s something similar for driftwood. I guess it’s only worth it if there’s prize money though.
My new goal, assuming life stops going haywire for us, is to compete for a permanent position at work since I’ve been temporary for 10 years. This will overlap next year too, but my current project is updating our workspace to be more functional and accessible.

RANDOM COMMENTS: 1) Yes! — would love the recipe to the pear tart. 2) The most effective garage sale sign I did was also written in Spanish (there was a soccer tournament going on down the street). 3) MAVIS, I thought of you when I saw these gorgeous 18-inch driftwood Christmas trees at a vintage/craft mart. They used the ‘thin’ pieces as branches and had a wooden star at the top. I would imagine you could also put a small rug-hooked star at the top.
Lindi Turnipseed says
Mavis, what happened to replacing the old carpet in the craft room with pine boards? Did hubby outweigh you? I still vote for the wood to go with the rest of your house!!!!! I love your blog. Been following you for years!
Mavis Butterfield says
I wanted the wood, but the HH decided on carpet. I’m over it.
Sue in SoCal says
No, I don’t want the recipe for the pear frangipani tart. Said no one ever!
Diane says
Tart recipe, yes PLEASE.
