Go On A Solo Adventure.
A solo adventure to Fair Isle. I don’t think I could have picked a more unique and cozy spot to spend a few weeks. Who knows, maybe I’ll make this a yearly thing.
Take An Adult Education Class.
Maybe a bread baking class? I have always thought it would be fun to learn how to make sourdough bread.
Revisit An Old Friend.
Working in it.
Send 52 Cards To 52 Different People. {3 of 52 mailed so far}
I mailed off another card this past week. That makes 3 so far this year.
Make 12 Totally British Recipes In The AGA.
This of course is if I actually get my AGA this year. 😉 Still no update… But we’re hoping for the end of May. Time will tell.
Set Aside 200 Items For A Yard Sale
I pulled out the few Easter decorations that I have and decided this little felt bunny in a basket is going in the yard sale box. 1 down, 199 to go! 🙂
Earn $1,493.04 {Last Year’s Grocery Expenses} Selling Totally Random Things Online
I just listed another set of heart shaped rocks in my Etsy shop. I wonder if these will sell as quickly as the last set?
Sold so far:
- 1 Box of “Native Organically Harvested Maine Driftwood” for $89.95
- 1 Box of “12 Heart Shaped Rocks” for 24.95
*Money earned selling random stuff so far $114.90
* At the end of the year I will deduct all the shipping/supply/selling fees from the grand total.
Go On a Staycation/Craftcation With The Girl
Holing up somewhere to work on crafts and ordering room service for a few days seems like a totally fun thing to strive for don’t you think? The only rule is, the hotel has to be free {presumably with credit card points.} And there will be matching flannel pajamas.
Turn The Craft Room Into a Proper Studio Space
Before I can take everything out of the craft room to pull up the carpet and paint and do all the fun stuff, I first need to organize and re-stock everything.
And that means getting all the wool cut, patterns drawn, kits made and wool dyed so that when we tear the space apart everything will still be in stock and there won’t be any shipping disruptions.
Having a game plan and following through with it, that’s what it’s all about.
Changes I plan on making to the space:
- Rip out the old gross carpet and replace it with pine floors
- Fresh paint
- A proper light fixture
- New serger
- New work table
- A sitting area with a spot to hook
Hook 100 Rugs {20 of 100 done so far}
I was able to hook quite a few rugs while I was away plus come up with a few new designs. I’m hoping to have a few of them available for sale when I update my Etsy shop on March 4th.
Create 15 New Rug Hooking Patterns {6 of 15 completed so far}
New patterns I’ve added to my Etsy shop in 2023:
- Antique Hearts and Flowers
- Fat Cat with Hearts
- Horse and Hearts
- Valentine Kitties
- Little Chicken
- Hit and Miss Flower Basket
Grow 1,000 Pounds of Vegetables In The Commune Sized Garden
The house is surrounded by snow … And I LOVE it! What a treat. I know not everyone loves the winter weather here in Maine but I do.
I would love to have a greenhouse though so I’d be able to extend the growing season AND putter around in the greenhouse on a sunny day during the winter months.
Empty The Canning Cupboard / Fill The Canning Cupboard
Well, as expected, the HH didn’t make a dent in the canning cupboard while I was away. Not even a jar of salsa. How the man survived or what he ate is beyond me.
He did say that he lost 5 pounds though. 😉
Make $500 Selling Plants, Flowers or Vegetables
The Duck Lady said I could bring any plants, flowers or vegetables to her stand and sell them there this summer so I am going to take her up on that offer.
I ordered some stock seeds {the vintage brown variety} and I’m looking forward to growing those this summer.
Buy 12 Handmade Items {From 12 Different Artists} 1 down, 11 to go
I packed the 3 hats I bought from Rachel of Barkland Croft in the box I shipped backed home. Who knows when it will get here, but hopefully sooner than later.
Update Every Single Recipe On The Blog To A Printable Format
This past week I updated 3 recipes to a printable format on the blog. Hurray! Now I only have about 10 million left to go.
26 Official Date Days With My Handsome Husband
Totally not a date, but we stopped by Five Guys on the way home from the bus station and got fries and a shake and man oh man did it ever hit the spot. It’s good to be home! 🙂
- Date #1 Thomaston Cafe for lunch. It was lovely.
How about YOU? How are you coming along with your goals for this year?
Have a great day everyone,
~Mavis

You need to check out two books by Ella Risbridger . They are part memoir, part cookbook and filled with gorgeous illustrations. All of her recipes are British and she references her AGA for cooking. Wonderful books.
I really enjoyed following you on your trip. Thank you for posting.
Mavis Butterfield says
Thanks Lori. I will check and see if they are available.

Sorry it’s a Monday. I forgot to list the books.
Midnight Chicken and The Year of Miracles. Both are fabulous books.

Thanks for mentioning these books Lori! If I can’t find a book to borrow from the library, I usually purchase a used copy, which I found. I’m looking forward to reading Midnight Chicken when it arrives. 🙂

I love the goal of sending 52 cards!

Thank you Mavis for the printable curry recipe. I actually look forward to green tomatoes now. I bet the shake and fries were quite a treat and the bus ride was uneventful.

Could you tell us which card you use for travel points and why? I’m researching now to switch cards and getting confused o.how they work to redeem. Looking like the Chase Saphire is recommended a lot by various bloggers. Thank you!

I’ve done horribly on the bed by 11 and up by 6:15 goal–but I’ve started to turn a corner…
Haven’t done great on drinking water every day but figured out why I don’t use my pretty metal water bottle today–ICK!
I just restarted my morning stretches and core work today.
I’m allowing myself until 3/1 to get a cleaning scheduled prepared and a weightlifting plan set up.
I didn’t complete a house task during January, but did one this weekend–pulled out all our spices and placed them on a 3-tier rack. Looks like I still need to write the names of them in Sharpie on the lids, but as half of them are black, I need to bring a metallic pen home from school.
I need to dedicate myself to “dealing with” stuff: papers, emails, homeless items…at work and home.
*I’m not mentioning all the goals I’ve done a good job with this week, just the ones that need a boost.

I really enjoyed reading about your trip to Fair Isle. Especially considering that all I knew about Fair Isle before was the knitting part and not the island part. Heh. I totally think you should go again – but next time make it a different season to experience it in a different way!

Home sweet home, I’m glad your back loving on Lucy.
I know she missed you.
Looks like I missed the heart rocks again. Been checking often but don’t see them listed.
Would love to visit Scotland.
