17 Things I Want To Do In 2023 – Week 51 of 52
Make 12 Totally British Recipes In The AGA.
The HH made a haddock pie the other day and it was weirdly satisfying. We are still trying to figure out the purpose of the hardboiled eggs in the recipe. 😉 I’ll post the recipe soon.

- Pear Frangipane Tart
- Mince Meat Pies
- Cauliflower, Broccoli and Squash Casserole
- English Muffins
- Currant Scones

- Haddock Pie
Earn $1,493.04 {Last Year’s Grocery Expenses} Selling Totally Random Things Online
Instead of hunting for treasures along the shore, this past week we pulled up the floating dock. And in record time with no freaking out. Okay, so maybe the HH freaked out at the end a little. But hey, it’s up!
Also the winch he bought a few years ago for specifically pulling up the dock {insteading of paying for someone to pull it up/set it in the water for us}… Well it has finally paid for itself!
No movement on the T-Rex.

Rip out the old gross carpetand replace itFresh paintA proper light fixtureNew sergerORDERED!New work table{I bought 3!}A sitting area with a spot to hook
Hook 100 Rugs {97 of 100 done so far}
I still need to get 3 more rugs hooked before the end of the year. With only 7 days left in the year, they are all going to be mini rugs, that’s for sure! I really like hooking larger pieces, but I do like hooking the smaller ones too because I can bring them along while we are out running errands.
Create 15 New Rug Hooking Patterns DONE! {16 of 15 completed so far}
I am waiting until after Christmas to share the 3 new patterns I’ve just completed. In the meantime, I’ve been working on the paint by numbers kit I started last week, Portrait of Joseph Roulin by Vincent Van Gogh.
I am OBSESSED with this thing!!! I think I’m going to frame it and hang it on the wall by my desk when I’m done.
The HH thinks I’ve lost my mind. Says it’s one step above putting puzzles together. BOOOOO. I told him to go back to researching things he’ll never buy and leave me alone.
Husbands. They just have to add their two cents.

Mel says
We had Ruggable rugs, and they’re mostly quite good. Ours frayed a bit if you looked up close, and one somehow developed a small hole, but it wasn’t noticable and didn’t get worse. We had them for maybe 6-7 years. They were still in good shape, but I got rid of them for other reasons.
Mavis Butterfield says
Thanks Mel!!

I bought my wife a Juki serger and she loves it. Really loves it! I also bought her a whole bunch of different feet for it but she doesn’t use them. This Christmas I bought her a Babylock sewing machine specially for button holes. Merry Christmas and hope you enjoy your new serger. I made your panefort recipe yesterday. I used macadamia nuts, Hazel nuts and almonds. For fruit I found candied cantaloupe, dates and mango. Tomorrow I am going to bake the coconut pie, which I have been itching to try since you posted it during Thanksgiving.
Pauline in Upstate NY says
Non-sewer here. Maybe I’m the only reader who doesn’t know, but I’ll ask anyway. Sometime (after the holidays!) could you explain how a serger is different from a regular sewing machine and why one might need both?
Joyous Christmas to anyone celebrating it! And Happy New Year to all!
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes! 🙂
Sue S. says
The only use my 40 year beast of a Singer sees any action is when I run a stay stitch around my rug hooking patterns but it’s worth it’s weight in gold. Hooking patterns are so much better when the raw edge is serged. Merrie Christmas from Cape Cod and New Year’s blessings to all. Thank you Mavis for bringing such variety to our lives.
Mona says
I have a ruggable doormat n my front porch. Love it!
Linda says
I have 2 Ruggable rugs at entry doors. One is fraying a bit at one end, but they are otherwise very durable. I love that they are machine washable. They can be a bit of a pain to attach properly to the backing though. I ended up with 2 rugs because Ruggable sent me the wrong size the first time, but told me to keep the mistake & sent my original order to me.
Pam Bennett says
We have two ruggables and they are great. Really nice when you have two little dogs that get upset tummies or “forget” where the pee pads are. Ours have washed nicely and look like new when we put them back down.
Tracey says
LOVE and have been lusting over that exact patterned rug for some time now.
I did have a ruggable briefly, but the pattern turned out to be a bit more casual/farmhouse than my home decor, so it never felt right. The Liberty pattern would be more in tune.
I think it would be lovely in your place; just the right balance of casual/formal, if that’s a thing.
