We’ve had a nice batch of sunny days in Seattle lately. So nice in fact I’ve been spending all of my free time in the garden. Which is good. It keeps me out of the bars and discos. Ha Ha Ha.
Do you remember the cabbage and stinky brussels sprouts I started from seed under the grow lights? Well they have grown into real, live plants. Holy Crackers Batman! I did it!
It makes me want to dig up the entire backyard, buy a ton of grow lights and start a farm. I don’t think growing 2,000 lbs of backyard garden goodness is going to cut for too long it if I’m successful this season. I’ll want more.
Creepy Gnome Guy received his first assignment of the season.
He has been ordered to the broccoli patch. This spring he will be depending the broccoli and broccoli rabb from slugs and squirrels. This is a rather serious assignment because as you all know with all the wet weather we have had this spring the banana slugs will be out in full force this year. But don’t worry, I have armed Creepy Gnome Guy with a gallon bucket of salt. Any slug coming within a 5 foot radius of the raised garden beds will be tossed in.
We show no mercy for slugs around here. None.
I also planted kale in 2 planters I placed in front of the greenhouse. technically the kale is supposed to be planted 18″ apart. HA! Are they nuts? The Girl Who Thinks She’s A Bird will uproot them long before they achieve their full size.
Wahoo… This growing your own food business is fun. I can’t wait until I get to start weighing the crops.
So what have YOU been doing with your free time?
A little Disco Dancing perhaps?

I’m really jealous you’ve already got stuff in the dirt….it just snowed here yesterday and we’ve got snow on the agenda again tonight! Needless to say I’ll be knee deep when mud season arrives =D

Your seedlings look awesome! This is my favorite time when those babies look healhty and full of possibilities, you know before they get chew marks on them from the evil pests sure to show up to our free buffet!
