This past weekend I helped my neighbors Chino the Handyman and Girly Girl with two backyard projects. At some point I asked Chino about a ratty old wooden board I had noticed sitting against the retaining wall. The board had actually been propped up against his wall since last summer. And since they are both a little on the crafty side, I was wondering what they were going to use it for.
“Hey Chino, what’s up with that board? What are you going to do with it?”
“That? It fell off the trailer a long time ago. I was going to toss it on to the burn pile… WHY? YOU WANT IT?”
“Really?”
{Insert blank stare from Chino}
You mean you don’t want it?
“Uhhhh. No.”
“Sweet!” And I hauled it home as fast as I could.
Check this out. Now the Girl Who Thinks She’s a Bird has a sign for her vegetable stand.
I guess the saying is true. One man’s trash, is another man’s treasure.
Ha Ha Ha… I think the signed turned out great!
So tell me, have you picked up any “trash” lately?
Did you turn it into something really cool?
I’d like to think I’m not the only one who gets odd looks from my husband when I haul crap home.

I LOVE that sign! So cute! Did you draw those veggies? WoW! So in regards to bringing trash home…..I live in a highly touristy area. Just diagonal and down the street from my house is the back side of one of the cute little shops. Many moons ago I looked out my kitchen window and noticed an old rocking chair in the dumpster. Well of course I had to go get it. I had high hopes for that thing. But just never got around to fixing it up. So I sold it at a garage sale last weekend to a DIYer. Hope she fixes it up all cute.

Hey, making money off other peoples trash isn’t a bad either. 🙂

I wouldn’t say I’ve rescued any trash recently but this past weekend found neighbors dropping off items at my house as they cleared out their own: a 16′ extension ladder, canning pot, 3 flats of canning jars/lids, rhubarb, chard plants, and rebar. By the way…LOVE the rhubarb cinnamon jam recipe. Gave some to all the people who dropped off these presents.

Hi Mavis you are awesome, the sign is really cute. I actually brought home some old ratty looking pallets my uncle had on his burn pile ready to burn. My husband couldn’t believe I was dragging them home but I made them into a compost bin. They seem to work just fine, then I planted a Trumpet Vine On the outside to make it look a little nicer.

Way to go Leanne! 🙂

I’m an apartment dweller and there’s always furniture by the dumpsters. A few months ago I found a dresser with two of its legs missing as well as the drawers. I cut off the other two legs, removed the drawer slides, sanded it and painted it. I found some baskets at a local thrift store that I made fabric liners for and use them instead of drawers.

So creative, I love it!

Love the sign… And yes… it is good to know that I am not the only one that gets ‘that look’ with me hauling another ‘find’ home!
Love going to the tip to drop off the recycling… never know whats there that I can use!

there is a certain place about a block from my home that families pile up their trash and I ck it out. There was 2 2×4, several pieces of sanded front an back ,different sizes that would mk great shelves that I brought home. I was so very pleased.
