Check out this bouquet of basil I picked this morning, isn’t it lovely? Now comes the hard part, trying to figure out what to make with it. I already have a boatload of pesto in the freezer, so I’m trying to come up with a salad or a dish worthy of it. I don’t know about you, but sometimes there are just so many good recipes out there it’s really hard to decide what to make.
I’m not sure what the weather has been like in your neck of the woods, but here in the greater Seattle/Tacoma area it’s been wacky. One minute there are thunder storms and lighting and the next minute, sunshine. Luckily today there is sun, and I can’t wait to get my boots on and start playing in the dirt.
I snapped a few photos of my heirloom tomatoes this morning as I was opening up the greenhouse doors.
Luckily, no tomato blight has been spotted in the greenhouse, so that makes me happy!
Wahoo! I can hardly wait for these babies to ripen.
So excited!!
So what’s on your list today?
Staying in? Going somewhere exciting? Chores?

I love this bruschetta w/feta:

It won’t use up a ton of the basil, but it’s a start 🙂

We’re re-painting director’s chairs, and now I think I need to paint the canvas seats too because they’re a mess! Happy Saturday!

I have to finish painting my dining room chairs.

I cracked open my first try at lacto-fermented zucchini pickles today. YUM! They could stand a day or two more to get even more tart, but today they are good.
I haven’t been out to the garden for the past two days, so I need to bring in the bounty when it gets a little cooler.
And, I found mushrooms for $1 less than usual, so I am dehydrating 7 containers of them.

Hubby and I went to the Edmonds Farmers’ Market and it was gorgeous and busy. Bought some pure local cold-pressed hazelnut oil and olive oil, and we ate most of 2 pounds of organic cherries ($4/lb for organic!). It’s a beautiful day here!

P.S. I’ll take some of your crazy weather. We haven’t had any rain in over a month and its been in the upper 90s to low 100s. Send some of that rain out here to the midwest please!

Ohhh this looks good!!!

I painted my living room and entry way today ~ yahoo! Also getting ready for a big yard sale next Friday and Saturday. The only bummer is I was hoping for rain so I wouldn’t feel so guilty about working inside the house today.

It’s 2pm, grey and cold (5.5C) and mid winter here in Kiwiland. Brrrrr.
Instead of looking to harvest tomatoes, I am planting seeds and letting them sprout on top of my fridge. Have some up so next step is to get the greenhouse made up so I have somewhere to keep my babies. Can you bottle some of your summer heat and send it over please? I am a hot house flower I have decided and not an alpine plant.

I also LOVE basil and use it in a lot of recipes, but your combination of basil and tomato in one post reminded me of one of my FAVORITE recipes – roasted green beans – that uses both. It won’t disappoint!

I wish you lived closer, lol, I’d give you a boatload of tomatoes. 🙂 the farm I’m helping at has over 400 tomato plants so I’m on my second 80lb installment of canning. I’ve made ketchup, salsa, tomato soup, and stewed tomatoes. Still have roughly 40lbs to process and will probably enter into my third 80lb installment tomorrow. Can’t sell everything at the farmers market so they pay the help in tomatoes 🙂 Life is good!
Mavis says
You get paid in tomatoes? That’s totally cool. 🙂

It’s basically a share cropping situation but this year I don’t have a garden plot on their farm (found them too late in the season) so I work this year for excess produce. Next Spring I’m putting 4 bee hives on the farm along with gardening my small plot of garden there. I give them 4-5 hrs work a couple days a week because I enjoy the garden and their company. They are 77 & 82 and have a lifetime of stories to share and more work than they can handle comfortably.
