Okay, so maybe I am a total garden nerd, but every year around this time I start thinking about what I’m going to plant in NEXT YEARS garden.
And because I am a super nerd, I like to get on the mailing list for my favorite seed companies so I’ll be the first to get their new catalog when it comes out in late fall/early winter. Here is a list of a few of the seed companies I’ve ordered from in the past. If you have a favorite one you don’t see on the list, let me know in the comment section below and I’ll add it.
Botanical Interests Seed Catalog {My boyfriend Ryan works here}
Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds {Cool rare seeds}
Gardens Alive {$20 off a purchase of $40 or more}
High Mowing Seed Catalog
And if you are looking for bulbs…
Breck’s {Save $25 when you order $50 or more}
Did I miss one of your favorite seed companies? Let me know and I’ll add it to the list.

Hey wait! I thought you gave up Ryan for your new boyfriend Cisco last month. Don’t tell me you collecting Botanical Boyfriends and catalogs. 🙂
Mavis says
It’s a tough choice I know. I keep going back to Ryan though because he is so darn cute. 😉

Mavis, have you ever been to Sky nursery in Shorline? Its my favorite nursery I’ve ever been to. They always have every type of vegetable I could ever want! I would love to see what you got if you ever go there!
Mavis says
I have not. I should totally go check it out, I’ve heard great things about it. Thanks!

Don’t forget Uprising Seeds (www.uprisingorganics.com) in Bellingham, WA. I found out about them from a Seattle Tilth course…lots of organics, heirlooms and endangered varieties…all grow well in Pacific Northwest.

Only you can make seed catalogs sexy. LOL

OK, he’ll be wearing that great plaid shirt, but what will you not be wearing when you pick plants? What music will be playing for circling catalog choices together? What’s your favorite Ryan movie you can watch over and over? Jealous minds want to know.
Mavis says
Well if he is wearing a plaid shirt than I suppose I’d be wearing my usual dark jeans, and a black t -shirt with no music playing in the background {so we can concentrate on the seeds}. Favorite Ryan Gosling movie – The Notebook. 🙂

I remember the excitement when the Sears Christmas catalog and the Montgomery Wards Christmas catalog arrived. We would pour over the toys, and the first day you wanted 15 or 20. Then as you got closer to the holiday, your desired changed to just a couple or 3 or so things. I imagine you get the same thrill when the catalogs arrive at your home. You are just able to pick and keep more seeds to nourish and watch with joy as they pop up and become a reality, than my choice of dolls and toys,
Mavis says
You have your dolls, and I have my seeds… and Ryan. 😉

I get all my seeds from the Victory Seed Company. They are in Oregon and are 100% heirloom/non-GMO. They specialize in tomato seeds, so if you are looking for some cool varieties next year, check them out!

I just found out about FEDCO seeds out of Maine. They have a lot of organics and heirlooms and focus on sustainability. Heard about them from Paul and the Back To Eden Garden film. Website is: http://www.FedCoSeeds.com. They are a co-op and the packets are some of the cheapest I’ve ever seen $1.40 buys the majority of the vegetable seeds there. They also encourage group/co-op orders and offer a discount for orders over $100, $200, etc.
I’m going to be placing my first order with them this week.
