I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who gave me advise {and recipes} on what to do with the the 20 gazillion pounds of green tomatoes I harvested the other day. I plan on whipping up some green tomato goodness just as soon as I get a few more cups of tea pumping through my veins this morning.
In the mean time, here’s what I picked up at the store this past week.
Albertsons – $5.18
Earlier in the week I picked up free tissues, free pasta, free yogurt and some nearly free cheese with a couple of sets of Albertsons double coupons. On my last set of double coupons I earned a $5 off your next order coupon.
Albertsons – $.01
I hung on to the $5 coupon until yesterday. Albertsons had their 3 pound bags of chicken on sale for $4.99 {limit of 1}. In order to use the $5 off coupon though, I actually had to spend $5 in products, so I picked up a $.02 grape to bring my total to $5.01.
After the $5 off coupon was applied, I only had to pay $.01 for 3 pounds of chicken. Yee-Haw!
Costco and Target – $8.79
I also went to Costco last week and forked over $7.75 for some whipping cream. Man that stuff is expensive. To maximize my Costco shopping trip I went at lunch time, you know, when all the ladies with hairnets are passing out free samples.
Local Store – FREE
Being able to pick up “chicken scraps” from our local store has really saved our family a lot of money in the produce department this year. Watermelon, fresh corn, mushrooms, strawberries and grapes are not things I would normally purchase for my family. So being able to get them for free has not only been helpful with our budget, but it’s been pretty fun to see what comes our way each week as well. Free food rules, no matter how you look at it.
Total Spent This Week $13.98
Total Spent This Year $978.71
Total Spent This Year on Garden Seeds/Supplies $516.21
Total “Seed Money” donations received $51.00
How did YOU do this week? Any splurges?
I feel like the 1/2 gallon of whipping cream was a splurge for us.

How do you find out about all the coupon match ups? Do you know if all the Albertsons in WA double? TIA

As usual, you are amazing! I have to brag a little…I don’t get weekly free fruit like you do..but my Dad owns an orchard and brought me a box of pears and a box of plums last night…so I have my work cut out for me this week! I am going to make some of your pear jam recipe although I have never used liquid pectin and I am a bit afraid!
Mavis says
An orchard? How awesome is that? Make the pear vanilla jam… It is AWESOME!

LOL @ the .02 grape!! That’s awesome. Just did the cheese and yogurt that I mentioned… Oh, got free Wholly Salsa at Fred Meyer (Kroger). And then my usual Walgreens freebies yesterday – 6 big bottles of free mouthwash, 4 free allergy something, and 3 free energy shots (like I need ’em ;)).

That looks to be a HALF GALLON of whipping cream! What do you do with all of that whipped cream??
Leanna says
Make ice cream.
Elizabeth says
We use half and half and yogurt. Have never used whipping cream.
Leanna says
Are you going to make it? That is only $15.81 each week for the next 14 weeks. I know you will….you are awesome. Maybe Albertsons will have their gift card special again.
Mavis says
I sure hope so!! 🙂

I’ve been couponing for a few years, and I think your 2 cent grape is the funniest thing I’ve seen. Wish I could have seen the cashier’s face!
Jamie Scheer says
Yes, I am laughing out loud about the 1 grape! I am a couponer and I have never thought of that as a “filler”. I have heard of people buying 1 banana, though. You are too funny!

I LOVE –‘a grape’– hilarious!! Whatever works, baby!!

My splurge this week was a pomegranate. Normally they aren’t so expensive here but so far 3.99 seems to be the going price. For 1. I love to peel them myself and pick out all the seeds. Don’t hold with these water bath methods etc. What a mess that was when I tried it. Right back to the tried and true. And buying the already seeded? No way.
I hope they go down in price as I am used to buying 2 or 3 at a time.
