Last night, after Thanksgiving dinner, I read the book The Elf on the Shelf* to Monkey Boy and the Girl Who Thinks She’s a Bird. You know the story, right? Santa sends a magical elf {ours is named Ernesto} to keep an eye on children {and teenagers} on the weeks leading up to Christmas.
Each night, after the kids go to bed, the magical elf heads back to the North Pole to report the children’s behavior to Santa. Then somehow, the elf makes his way back into the children’s house and hides in a new spot each morning to spy on them again.
Monkey Boy and The Girl are still asleep, but I spotted Ernesto the Elf almost immediately this morning. It appears he has a fondness for paperwhites. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty excited to have him around this year, after all I don’t have the time to spy on my kids and report back to Santa, I have a garden to whip back into shape for the 2013 growing season.
Peace Out Girl Scouts, this should be an interesting series.
