If you’ve been looking for simply THE BEST snickerdoodles recipe, well then, you’ve come to the right place. We are BIG FANS of cookies in our house. And I mean big!
My daughter and I have been using this recipe for over 20 years now and these cookies are a winner every single time! Seriously, these snickerdoodles are super easy to make and they freeze well too. Which is always a bonus if you ask me.
Especially around the busy holiday season! I’ve frozen these snickerdoodles as baked cookies and prepared dough balls and they both seem to last about 3 months in the freezer.
If you have never had homemade snickerdoodles before, you are seriously missing out. These taste sooo much better than store bought.
Everyone in our house loves these cookies. I prefer to dunk my cookies in tea, the kids like to dunk them in their milk, and the Handsome Husband, well, he will pretty much eat anything we leave out on the counter.
Husbands… They’re kind of funny that way. 😉
So if you’re looking for another cookie to add to your favorites list, add these cookies, because this snickerdoodles recipe is crazy good. I promise!
Have a good one,
~Mavis
PrintSnickerdoodles Recipe
Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter {softened}
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 3/4 cups flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Combine the flour, baking soda, cream of tarter and flour together in a bowl and set aside.
Mix the butter, eggs, and 1 1/2 cups sugar together in a large bowl. Slowly add the flour mixture until the dough is nice and smooth.
In a small bowl combine the 2 tablespoons of sugar and 1 1/2 teaspoons of cinnamon.
Drop 1 tablespoon sized dough balls {I like to use a 1 tablespoon cookie scoop for this} into the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat.
Place dough balls on a lined cookie sheet and bake at 350 for 11 minutes or until slightly browned.
Cool on a wire rack.

Am I the only person who doesn’t like Snickerdoodles? I’m not even sure why. I like all the ingredients. But I don’t like these. At all. Weird? Maybe? But the fam does, so I make ’em for them. *fingers crossed* Santa brings me SILPATS!

LaToya,
I must agree with Mavis that you are the only person alive who doesn’t like snickerdoodles. My only problem is that I never seem to have cream of tarter on hand. All the other ingredients? Yes. May need to go get some since I have a couple of events this weekend where cookies are needed.
Thanks for the reminder!

Do you have a Winco or a bulk bin place around you? That’s where I get my cream of tartar and always seem to have it on-hand and on the cheap.

This is quite possibly the best Snickerdoodle recipe I’ve ever tried! I actually substituted half the butter with coconut oil. They are perfection!!!

Glad to hear you liked them. 🙂

snickerdoodles are my all-time favorite cookie. My neighbor who is constantly baking something will always give me some of these whenever she bakes them.
If I make them, I NEVER share with anyone! LOL

This is just the best recipe! I’ve made it many, many times over the years. Baked again tonight with a young friend who is learning to bake, and we subbed shortening for the butter to accommodate a lactose intolerance. They still baked up perfectly and are simply delicious! Thank you!

Thanks Lorene! 🙂

Interesting recipe! Mine calls for sanding the cookies in cinnamon/sugar AFTER baking.
I think I’ll give your recipe a shot and see what the taste differential is.
