A few months before I started my own blog in January of 2009, I discovered 2 blogs I really enjoyed reading. So much so that last fall, I hopped on an airplane to fly to a pie party in Virginia to meet the people behind the computer screens.
Blogging is weird that way. We make connections with people from all over the world, most of whom we will never meet, yet we still feel connected to them in some way.
When I visited my friends last fall, Jane had just begun working on a top-secret project. Her own recipe book. Having tried many of her recipes over the years, I was very excited for her to finish her book, and couldn’t wait to get my hands on a copy.
Well guess what? She finally finished her cookbook. When mine arrived last week, I knew exactly what the first recipe I wanted to try was. Peppermint Patty Brownies.
All I’ve got to say about this recipe is this – Deep down you know any recipe that calls for 1 1/2 cups of butter, is going to be good. I hope the Handsome Husband gets home in time for a few crumbs. Holy canolies people, these are so good!
Here is Jane’s recipe:
PrintYork Peppermint Patty Brownie Recipe
Ingredients
24 small Peppermint Patties, unwrapped
1 1/2 cups {3 sticks} unsalted butter, melted
3 cups sugar
1 tbsp. vanilla
5 eggs
2 cups flour
1 cup cocoa powder
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
Instructions
Stir together butter, sugar and vanilla in a large bowl. Add eggs. Beat well. Stir in flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt. Blend well. Reserve two cups of batter. Spread the remaining batter in a greased 9 x 13 inch pan.
Arrange peppermint patties evenly on top of the batter. Spread reserved batter over the top. Bake at 350 degrees (for a metal pan) or 325 degrees (for a glass pan) for about 40 minutes or until set and a sharp knife comes out relatively clean.
Cool completely before cutting into large squares. These freeze beautifully.
Over the past 3-4 years Jane has posted many of these recipes on her website as well as prepared them for her family. If you are looking for a great collection of recipes that contain REAL FOOD, {and some sweets} this is the cookbook for you!

I received my copy of the cookbook a week or two ago and I’m so excited to try the recipes and other advise in the book. Such a wealth of knowledge in this cookbook that everyone can benefit from. I ordered it off of the link on your website thinking it would be a great resource to figure out what I should plant in my garden next year that I can preserve and cook with. First recipe to try….obviously York peppermint patty brownies!

Am I supposed to use salted or unsalted butter for this recipe?
