I don’t know about you, but there is a boatload of crapity, crap in practically every nook and cranny of my house. Things I don’t need, don’t want, don’t fit, don’t know where the heck they came from. You know, crap.
By the time spring cleaning rolls around I’ll be too busy in the garden to clean my house, so I figured hey, why not do it now. So over the next 30 days, each morning I’m going to pick a closet, cupboard, or drawer and clean it out. I’ll haul all the usable stuff to the dinning room, and then when I’m done, I’ll bag it up and donate it.
Because you know what they say, one man’s trash, is another man’s treasure.
Yee-Haw! Let the goods time begin.

P.S. This is where being an incredibly snappy dresser pays off. Solid colors never go out of style.
P.P.S. I have no idea how that striped shirt got in there.

This is one of the many reasons that I love your blog – we are often on the same wavelength! It will take me a lot longer than 30 days, that’s for sure, but I’ve been working on it steadily for the past couple of months, so I am giving myself a couple days off! I have a study with about 84 shelves, and that alone is going to take up a lot of time. Unfortunately, I have a teeny tiny year, even though I yearn for 100 acres, so I won’t be doing much gardening.

I’m sitting in a house that has empty closets, bare shelves, and almost no toys. It feels…free.

I have almost exclusively striped shirts!

Cleaning out and de-cluttering is also one of my goals, too. My husband and I so want to sell our house and downsize in terms of square feet inside for acreage on the outside. I want back in the country.
In the meantime, I need much less junk, especially since our next became empty this past summer. Unfortunately, there is a distinct “pack rat” gene in our family, and I got it. I need encouragement as I always fear getting rid of something because “I might need that later” keeps playing in my head.
Good luck to you with this goal, too!

You should weigh what you end up donating like you do with your garden production — it’ll be like your house went on a diet!

I actually did the same thing starting today, but I will not be done in 30 days. I am working on the 2 catchall drawers in the kitchen. The one under the phone and the one that has all the labels, money for milk caps, etc collecting in it.
I can’t forget my inlaws house, it was as you say, filled to the brim with “crap”. Not a word I like but no better way to describe it. Under every bed, stuffing every drawer, packed into every closet. There were layers of junk lined up against walls, sometimes in multiple vertical layers. Very little usable was salvaged after they died.

Fabulous idea! I love the idea of targeting one spot each day…will make the job seem more do-able instead of overwhelming!!!

This is exactly what I need!! With a family of 7, living in a pretty small house, and having just gone through Christmas, my house is a wreck! I tend to be a packrat, so I know it won’t be easy, but it is necessary!!

I love feeling inspired!!! We start every year by cleaning out one room or a portion of a room every weekend until spring since the weather right now is very cold and snowy. When spring comes I want to be enjoying the weather and not spring cleaning. 🙂 We cleaned out my husbands dresser, his clothes and shoes in his closet, the hall closet with family games, crafts, and Wii stuff. I feel great!!! I am going to donate a TON! 🙂

Yep, we’re starting that here also, right after we have Christmas with the in-laws tomorrow.

Perfect timing for me too….first I saw what’s going on in the bathroom drawers yesterday morning when I was looking for a hair piece for me…..and I have so much food that I can’t get anything cold as my fridge and freezer are full….so I am taking up the declatter/sorting challenge.

Yay!

This is a great idea! I tend to want to do everything all in one weekend and then when we dont get it done, I get discouraged and quit. I just stopped working today for awhile (pre-maternity leave until my babies are born), so I now have time to do this! Yay!
