Lately I’ve been getting some really cool emails and packages in the mail from readers, and tonight I thought I would share a few of them with you.
See these two lovely ladies? This is what their mom Lisa wrote me last night:
Mavis! I made your Oatmeal Rolls today for the first time today. I don’t really like the shape of them, but when my two youngest daughters (Sailor & Regan) came home from school today they couldn’t stop eating them and thought they were delicious!
I said, “Wait, I have to get a picture of you eating the rolls to send to Mavis”. My entire family knows of you by name…Mavis, the one with all the good recipes, and the one who got us involved in the free produce from the grocery store!
Ha! Awesome Possum Lisa, Sailor and Regan. I’m glad you liked the rolls.
Erin from Sydney, B.C. wrote in to tell me about her Meyer lemon tree she has growing in her greenhouse. Umm hello, what about the gorgeous purple orchid? And take a look at those micro greens growing under the grow lights.
I totally wish I had a table set up like Erin does, not to mention that hanging grow light. I’m going to show the HH your set up and cross my fingers he will create one for me.
Oh, and Erin, if you need help picking those lemons, just let me know. I have a passport and an awesome recipe for a lemon tart I want to try. Not to invite myself over or anything, but I could come up for the day and we could make a pot of tea and enjoy our lemon tart in the greenhouse and talk about Downton Abby all afternoon if you want.
Oh, and you are not going to believe this. Dianna from Massachusetts sent me a $20 gift card to Albertsons. Maybe you don’t remember Dianna’s name, but I’m sure you remember the special delivery Ernesto the Elf helped me with right before Christmas.
Well Dianna was the lucky recipient and she opened her package on Christmas morning {you can read her response to the package at the bottom of the comment section HERE} and was so thrilled that she ME a gift in return.
Holy cow people.
THANK YOU for all your kinds words and photos. You make opening the mail so much fun!

I’ve been wondering about the recipient of that Christmas gift!
How cool are the names ‘Sailor’ and ‘Regan’?! I’m making those rolls this weekend 🙂

tonight we had your sloppy joes, the whole family loves them and the only sloppy joe recipe i have ever like.
Mavis says
I LOVE JJ’s recipe for Sloppy Joes too! Thanks for the reminder, I’m going to make them tonight! 🙂

Mavis, have you ever been to Raintree nursery? It was recommended by somebody… maybe in a book… it’s nearby, in Milton, I think. They have Meyer lemon trees.
Mavis says
I’ve ordered from them {love them} but never been down there. Maybe a road trip is in order.
Erin says
Hi Mavis. It was so much fun to go into your blog today…as I do every day…and see this.
I may very well need a hand picking the lemons. Thank you for the kind offer. You are welcome anytime! It would be a hoot. 🙂
I am hearing about Downton Abbey everywhere right now. I think I need to check it out.
Mavis says
What? You re “hearing of Downtown Abby right now” you must get caught up!!!

Ok, love the girls, mom and the rolls!!
AND I am so totally with you on the orchid, having a lemon tart and light set up. My DH, who usually only gets referred to by that name when I type it:-) is setting me up a 8 bulb grow light set up here within the next month or so. He ordered the ‘tombstones’ for the shop lights we did have so he could convert them to T-5 bulbs as part of my Christmas present, then for our anniversary, in early Jan. he ordered me a 4 light set up that is on its way:-)
I ONLY bragg on this feat as he is a ‘fisherman, not a farmer’ and major support for food growing efforts has not materialized until he got fresh strawberries for weeks on end a few summers ago 🙂 (when you live in major AK wild salmon rural America…fresh anything is a big deal)
Enjoying all the fun stuff this winter and so sweet of all to share!!
