Homemade Old Bay Seasoning
It’s been a while since I’ve posted one of my DIY Spice Mixes, but after finding some halibut in the freezer, I decided to whip up a batch of my copycat version of my Old Bay Seasoning Recipe.
This spice mix is perfect with pretty much any kind of seafood and is a must-have around here when we have salmon or crab.
Here is my recipe:
Ingredients
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon ground celery seed
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon ground bay leaf
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg {I like to buy mine whole and grate it as needed}
1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Directions
Mix all the ingredients in a small bowl until well-combined. Store in an airtight container in a cool dark place.
Boom! Old Bay Seasoning Recipe for the win.

I’ve loved all your DIY spice mixes. Thanks for posting these. I’ve pinned them all and this one will be added to the collection. Growing your own herbs, chili’s etc really saves me a ton of money plus I love not having to run to the store just to buy a spice mix. And I can control the heat level in our chili powder mixes.

Thanks for that we came to the USA last year for a holiday,(eight years saving) Old Bay seasoning was one of the things I brought back with me as it is £12($17) as tin here!
With the weather warming up it is getting to be BBQ time so I will whip a batch of this up, as I cannot afford to come and get the real thing for another seven years!
Many thanks again for your inspiration.

Hi Mavis,
I am new to your website and I really enjoy it. I wanted to know if you have a copy-cat for Slap ya Mama cajun spice?
Thanks, Mary

A bit too salty for my taste. It works if you can’t get the Old Bay seasoning, like the folks outside the US. Otherwise I’d just pick it up next time I’m shopping.

Hotter than any Old Bay I’ve had.
