Oroweat Bakery Outlet – $8
With 5 weeks of school left I’m hoping this will be enough bread and bagels to get us through to the end of the school year. If you have never shopped at a bakery outlet before, check around in your area, it’s a great way to save. Anytime I can get good bread and bagels for $1 a bag I like to stock up. Find out how I keep our bread fresh.
Target – $5.28
I’m not sure what else we purchased at Target last week but while we were there we grabbed 2 gallons of milk.
Amazon – FREE
My hottie of a UPS man delivered some peanut butter crackers for Monkey Boy and a jar of Nutella for The Girl Who Thinks She’s a Bird after I cashed in some of my Swagbucks for a free Amazon.com gift card.
Local Produce Stand – $6.22
Our local produce stand had broccoli on sale last week for $.99 a pound, Fuji apples for $0.69 a pound and cucumbers for $0.50 each. Each week they have 2 or 3 really good deals so I always try and stop in and pick them up when I’m nearby.
We also harvested salad greens, basil, spinach, radishes, and sprouts this week.
How did YOU do with your grocery budget over the past 7 days?
Do you have a garden? Are you looking forward to “grocery shopping” from your garden pretty soon? I know I am.

We harvested our first batch of radishes from our community garden plot! I was so thrilled! Best d*** radishes I’ve had in my entire LIFE!! I can’t wait to get over there this weekend & get some cuke seeds in the ground. It seems like things have warmed up around here enough for it…. I think…. #NewbGardenerIssues #AlsoCucumberAddictProblems ;D

Thanks for the tip about bakery outlets. I discovered we have a Franz outlet nearby, so I’ve been buying in bulk and then freezing. They offer free items, depending on how much you spend. Woohoo! I average $1 per item. Anyway, this has helped our budget greatly, so thank you!

We harvested our first lettuce this weekend! YUM!
And your photo made me laugh – that amount of bread would be gone in 5 days around here 🙂 SOO glad we have an outlet nearby too!

I haven’t bought any food this month. The plan is to buy none at all but I may have to splurge andspend $4.50 on 75 pounds of potatoes, because we already ate through 50 pounds of potatoes this month (that I bought at the end of April).
Still, the plan is to not buy anything this month, so we’ll see how that goes. I’m done this so many times before that I’m rather used to it, and May is super productive in the garden, which is helpful as well.
Today I harvested Swiss chard, and I am making a batch of apricot vanilla jam with some apricots from my father-in-law’s tree. I may have a chance to go glean apricots later today from someone who has 3 trees, but I’m still waiting to hear back from that person when he will be home so that I can go pick them. He wants a few jars of jam in exchange.
My own apricot tree will be ripe a little later this month.
I also need to pick some bolting lettuce (we have been eating it! It’s a bit bitter but not too bad) and give it and my bolting Swiss chard to someone in exchange for eggs from her chickens (I am not zoned for chickens or we would be giving it to our own chickens!)
I built two walls on Saturday in preparation for our front yard garden, which will include 3 meyer lemons, a peach tree, an apricot tree, basil, parsley, passionfruit, cucumbers, and about 1000 flowers, all in a tiny space. I plan on sending you pictures once it is done and blooming.

Just picked my first radish today. I discovered you can eat the greens. I was roasting kale and threw the radish tops in– they were fantastic. Online there are recipes for radish top pesto, radish greens added to salads. I read that they are super nutritious too. Who knew?! Thanks for inspiring me to plant radishes (and lots of other yummy veggies)!
