Tonight The Girl and I are watching Vanishing of the Bees. It’s a documentary that explores the ramifications of the decline in the honeybee population. If you have followed my blog for any length of time, you know I’ve recently taken up an obsession interest in bees, so I think this will be a pretty good one, and can’t wait to check it out.
Amazon Prime Members can watch Vanishing of the Bees for free.
Let me know what you think if you decide to watch it–or if you have already seen it. Did you love it? Hate it? Can’t wait to watch it over and over?

Thank’s for the link Mavis. I’ve been given a few new, unused bee hive/skeps (?) My girl wants me to start bee keeping and I’m on board but I can’t seem to find the time for classes. Like you, we have a good amount of bee activity but it took a few years between clearing the land and planting the garden for them to show up in droves, Hmm, homemade mead might be good.

Apparently there is a mite that has invaded hives around the world and is destoying them. Australia is free for the time being and has been exporting bees worldwide. What a disaster it would be if we didn’t have bees, no food, no flowers, no trees, no humans. We really do rely on the humble bee for our lives.

Ive been a beekeeper for a few years now and over time have come to the conclusion that it isnt one thing but a number of problems that are causing the demise of pollinators. I feel that bees are the equivalent of the canary in the coal mine only our environment and planet is the coal mine. If you havent seen Queen of the Sun, thats another good bee documovie.
Spikenard Farm, a honey bee sanctuary, which is featured in the movie is doing a fundraising campaign to support their educational outreach programs.
