When you really get down to it, most of us live a charmed life. Sure, we all have our problems, be it health issues, relationship woes, or no money at the end of the month. BUT, if you live in these here United States {and many other countries}, you likely have it better than most people on the planet. This year, I made a list of all the things I am truly thankful for…I sincerely hope that when you make your list {hint, hint}, it is as long as mine and just as full!
- My family. Enough said.
- Good health. I am lucky enough to have the ability to haul dirt to my garden, what more could a girl ask for?
- Lucy the snuggle puggle. She is seriously the best thing on the planet.
- Money in the bank. I have a comfortable life. I know that a lot of people don’t. I am grateful.
- Friends. Moving this past year showed me just how great my friends are. They helped pack, unpack, and make decisions…and they kept me company along the way.
- My readers. You come everyday, which means that I get to sit in my jammies until 2 p.m. and tell you about my quirky life. THANK YOU for continuing to show up.
- Clean water. Seriously, I don’t think about this enough, but walking into the kitchen and turning on the faucet only to have pure, clean water pour out is a HUGE deal.
- Naps. I love me a quick afternoon snooze.
- Public libraries. Reading a book a week this year has given me a new, deeper appreciation for a building full of books–FREE for me to read {okay, minus the fact I pay taxes}.
- My mistakes. Holy buckets, people, I could write a book on all of the mistakes I’ve made–funny thing, though, I could write a longer book on everything I’ve learned from them.
- My garden. It gives provides me with Zen…and free produce.
- My camera. My camera has told my story in pictures on this blog…only it makes my story a little more polished.
- My crock pot. Seriously, how could I not be thankful for something that offers to cook dinner for me, while I am out doing rad stuff {like not cooking dinner}?
- Smartwool socks. Warm feet, happy heart. Or something like that.
- Google. Dear google, you have taught me almost everything I know. Thank you.
- Amazon. This is not an advertising scheme. I really am thankful for items that are dropped off at my doorstep–so that I don’t have to go hunt them down in the store.
- Chocolate. Chocolate. Chocolate. It’s helped me out of some really rough situations.
- Toothpaste. Humans are stinky otherwise.
- Traveling!!! Seeing the world has given me perspective on the world.
- Thrift stores. Best treasure hunts ever.
- Garage sales. Mine and other people’s. Make a little money, save a little money. Score a treasure.
- My bed. I am always happy to see it.
- Netflix and Amazon Streaming. Nothing beats sitting down after a long day and turning on the exact show you want.
- Texting. I have never been a sit and talk for hours on the phone gal. Texting is the quick and dirty way to get the job done, and I for one, am thankful for it.
- My east coast home. Having a home on both coasts is AMAZE-BALLS. I know it is a luxury, and I am totally grateful for it.
Honestly, I could go on and on, instead, though, I would love it if you would list your top 5 in the comments. Thank you 🙂
~Mavis

1. God’s Mercy, 2. My adult children, 3. My grandchildren, 4. My great-grandchildren, 5. My family, by blood, and by choice. The list is unending, especially at my age, and given my health, what little there is of it. I hope, and pray you and yours have a blessed day.

I’m thankful for my family. I’m in chemotherapy and they have been so supportive.
Friends. Again, they have rallied around me since my diagnosis in June.
Social Security. LOL I had to stop working when I was diagnosed and because of the type of cancer I have, I got a compassionate allowance and SS disability started within two weeks. When I turned 60 last month, my widows pension started. I have more money now than when I was working and it is needed because my expenses increased.
A roof over my head. I’ve never been homeless but if the disability had not kicked in fast like it did, I might have come close. On second thought, I wouldn’t have been homeless because my family and friends would have made sure of that.
The ability to live by myself. I took that for granted for all of my life until I got sick. Fortunately, the chemo is working for me right now and what was diagnosed as inoperable stage IV pancreatic cancer may actually be able to be operated on next year. I’ll need help for a while but I have good insurance (should have added that as something I’m thankful for) so I will have home health and family and friends to help me get back on my feet.
I know this is number six and you only asked for five but I’m thankful to be alive. In three days, I will have reached the six months that my oncologist thought I had to live when I was diagnosed and I am doing better every week. The tumors in my liver are dying (necrosis) and the baseball sized tumor on the tail of my pancreas is shrinking and may be removed soon. I am very thankful to be alive and as much as I admire and trust my oncologist, I’m glad he was wrong about those six months I had left!

A place to go and eat Thanksgiving dinner. Even though dealing with extended family can be rough at times. I am always thankful to be included in this beautiful tradition.
My children (and Hubby) they keep me grounded. I love being a mom!
My house. It’s older but we live in such a nice and safe suburb community.
My chickens. They remind me everyday how Mother Nature provides.
Craft supplies. Grab a couple of random supplies, set them in front of a group and watch the creative juices flow, it’s magical.

1) My dogs and cat. Without The Darlings and KitteeBoi, life would be very lonely and very quiet. We keep each other happy.
2) Having a job that I have enjoy doing, make good money doing and really love and have fun with the people I’m working with.
3) Having the family that I do. My Grandmother pretty much raised me – I had a single Mom – and I always knew I was loved. They both instilled in me the mindset that I could do ANYTHING I set my mind to and encouraged that. And although we are spread far and wide, I still have loving relationships with them all.
4) Having my Queendom and being able to remodel my home and play with my gardens to my hearts content and make them into my dreams.
5) My friends. When I am at my lowest, they always seem to know and pop up to let me know I’m loved.
My #6 is you, Mavis. You’ve been a bright spot of sunshine that I look forward to each day. Thank you for keeping up this blog/website/gathering spot. You ROCK!

1. I am thankful for my dogs, even the one I had to put down this year…she made my life richer and seriously opened my heart. I feed their bellies, they feed my heart and it is as it should be.
2. I am thankful I still have a job that has allowed me to still have a house. It has been a rough year financially. All the things done to the house have been necessary as opposed to fun, like: a roof, insulation, actual working appliances, central air and finally solar panels installed. With all that out of the way, I would like to have fun with the house now!
3. I am thankful Toyota makes good trucks, 17 years later it still gets better gas mileage than some of the new ones on the sell lots. Although that doesn’t keep me from wanting a new one, but 4 more mpg is not enough to sway me.
4. I am thankful for the peace I finally feel inside, it has been a long time coming and just as difficult to sustain.
5. I don’t know that I am thankful for family this year as they have been very judgmental to say the least. I am thankful for my Mom even though she is more financially destitute then I am she is always willing for the most part to be my “Girl Friday”. She is the one that watches my dogs, gets my mail, takes me to the store when it snows, carts me to the doctor or ER and on the flip side when I have money, we go out to eat or to movies. We both joined the DAR and are both members on different lines now. Yeah I am thankful for my Mom.
