Albertsons $3.58
Milk was on sale last week for $1.79 a gallon with the in store coupon. It’s funny. A few years ago I did almost all of my grocery shopping at Albertsons. But these days, the deals are far and few behind and there are always long lines {they removed the self checkout lanes} and there are never enough cashiers. If I can’t get there when the store opens, I don’t bother anymore. It probably doesn’t help that there is a ton of new housing in the immediate area and a huge retirement complex going in nearby.
Maybe I’m getting old and grumpy, but I miss the “old version” of our town. It’s getting so crowded here. But I guess when you’ve lived in the same community for nearly 11 years it happens. 🙁
Winco $36.96
I LOVE the no frills attitude, store layout and lack of bedazzled end caps and overpriced {you’re just paying for fancy labels} products and aisles at Winco. It makes getting in and getting out a breeze. Plus the prices, so far only Aldi can beat them. I love it.
Pro tip: Brown sugar is $0.68 a pound in the bulk section and $0.77 a pound if you buy it in the 2 pound bag. Works for me. 😉
Costco $53.27
Gaaaa. I totally got sucked in when I sent shopping with Mrs. HB. I must have been craving meat and cheese because I walked out of there with brie, Dubliner, salami and ham.
What do you think of the new packaging for the croissants? On one hand I could see those containers being re-used for tons of things…. but on the other hand it kind of made my heart sink a little because it’s just another giant piece of plastic.

Date night with the HH $40
A new pizza joint Millville Pizza Company opened up and the HH and I finally got around to checking it out. Their wood fired pizza was perfect. I would order it again.
The salad was ordinary, and bruschetta although tasty, was rather unusual. It was basically a giant piece of toasted french bread with halved cherry tomatoes and parmesan on a bed of greens. I don’t know, I kind of think bruschetta should be bite size, not let’s move this to my plate and eat it in 4 bites with a fork and a knife type of thing. After growing up on bruschetta from Maggiano’s, maybe I hold the bar too high…
New restaurants, they are fun to try, they make date night more exciting but almost always leave me wishing I spent the money on groceries instead and just made something at home.

There is a $15/$40 at Maggiano’s right now when you sign up with them. Good thru Mid May. I got Western Family brown sugar/powdered for .35# a week ago at Ridleys. Had to get a rain check on powdered, but definitely will stock up on it next time there. I will use the new croissant pkg for adult easter basket to fill. With the plain plastic wrap, it was hard to keep them fresh before we used them all up. I think your Albertsons is now in a different division or ownership than our classic Albertsons. We have had splendid deals lately. They had all their dry beans for .69 pkg when you bought 10 and marshmellows .60 when you bought 10. Target has eggs for .50 dozen this week…yea, Target.

I snagged a $10 off $30. Thanks Helen!!

I’ve lived my beautiful, cozy neighborhood for 63 years growing up in the 50’s and ’60’s. Now instead of berry fields and and play all day, find the treasure woods we are surrounded by homes and traffic. Very sad. My big surprise of your post? You bought bologna!
Mavis Butterfield says
Monkey boy wanted it. I think it’s gross. 🙂

Right? Ever since Safeway bought Albertsons it sucks. Prices higher (especially produce – $2.50/lb for Granny Smith Apples? Are you crazy? And the nest prices? Don’t even get me started.), deals nearly non-existent…then they also took out the self-checks and so there are ALWAYS lines. Forget you, Albertsons. I, too, have a Winco I had only visited a few times until recently and I really like it, too.

I have an Albertson’s only 1 mile from my house but will go out of my way NOT to shop there. I will drive the 4 miles to Winco to avoid that place. Ours too took out self-check. The lines are long, checkers few. Our store has “deals” but you HAVE TO BUY several of the sale item in order to get the sale price. I don’t like that. I rarely go there, only in an emergency. The worst thing of all? Always smells like the seafood department needs cleaning! you smell something fishy as soon as you walk in the store, the seafood is all the way in the back! Sad.

The ‘have to buy certain amount’ to get the discount pricing is why I stopped shopping at Safeway. I use Winco for everything I can. Sometimes the fresh produce isn’t top shelf quality, so I make it my first stop and work my way up the price list when I can’t find what I like.

Wondering about the chicken thighs…..I have always been told to never re-freeze meat that has been frozen and then thawed. Bacteria grows each time it’s thawed.
Rita says
Yes Albertson’s has changed since they were bought/merged/whatever by Safeway. How many times I have put the ecoupons on my card/phone only to realize later that they were not applied. No one to contact either. Wish there was a WINCO around.

I just got a $10 off a $40 purchase at WinCo in my mail- it was a small postcard that came in the mail- did you get one? I’ll be using it in the next few days…
Mavis Butterfield says
No, but I’ll keep an eye out. Thanks!

Mavis- Your date night pizza looks FANTABULOUS, drooling over here! I also appreciate that you like fine cheeses, me too! Certain things are worth the price!
I’ve decided I’m a grocery store -aholic. Hi, my name is Gina……Until I can trust myself to get exactly what is on my list and nothing more, I will send the hubs to the store with very small lists for a while. I have no self control and all of this pretty Easter candy right now….. aarrrghh! So far he’s been a good sport and I’ve only ended up with ONE industrial sized can of tomato sauce, “it was cheaper” , lol!
Mavis Butterfield says
Oh that’s funny. At least your husband shops… mine doesn’t. 🙂 As for the candy aisle…. it’s my weakness too.
gina says
………..And he brought home peanut butter eggs tonight, lol! Have a very nice Easter Mavis!
