The Sweet Treat and Cash Care Package: For when they are running low on funds but simply cutting a check won’t do. {Pin it for Later}
The Girl has been away at college for a year now, but that doesn’t mean the care packages stop! She might be out of the homesickness phase and be well adjusted, but after having her home all summer, I’m missing her all over again. So it makes me feel much better and somehow connected to her when I put together a little something special and ship it off.
I’m assuming she loves them, too, but sometimes that’s not the point. I think it might be more for the moms and dads shipping their kids off. It helps erase the miles between us when we can still do part things!
So I like to put together care packages, and if you do, too, here are a few great ideas for what to send:
The Sick Day Care Package: For when you can’t be there to make them soup and keep them comfortable. {Pin it for Later}
The Friday Night Movie Care Package: For when you can’t be there to curl up on the couch with them and pop in your favorite movie. {Pin it for Later}
The First Aid Kit Care Package: For when you are trying to still take care of them but you can’t bandage their boo boos from across the country. {Pin it for Later}
The Sewing Kit Care Package: For when you won’t be there to sew that button back on. {Pin it for Later}

Any hints for saving on shipping for the care packages?

Oh Mavis, your care packages look like the ones I sent to my kids. The postage costs more than the contents!

Just sent off two care packages, one for my daughter (you’re right, Mavis, you do still miss them when they leave for their 2nd year!) and one for my first time freshman nephew. Mostly study snacks, like walnuts, almonds, granola, popcorn, plus homemade cookies. I always save coupons for my daughter for things she buys a lot, so I sent some of those, plus a ramen cookbook and a newspaper clipping with some recipes on it. One package was 16# and one was just shy of 10#. It cost $27 to send both priority 2-day mail, which considering that they’re hours away from me, seemed like a bargain.

I love it when my mom sends me a care package, especially when there is candy! Being in college, I spend so cheaply that there are few things, like candy, that I am willing to buy for myself. However, I definitely don’t buy my own movies either and so I could definitely use a Friday night package. Maybe I will pin it to my Pinterest as a hint to the world that that is what I need in my life right now.
