I came up with 12 goals I’d like to accomplish this year with the hopes of being able to cross one off my list per month to make them more manageable. I thought a great way to hold myself accountable to the things I want to accomplish this year would be to do a weekly update.
After all, we all need a little help staying motivated sometimes. Here’s how I am doing so far:
1. Clean, de-clutter and organize my entire home in 30 days or less. – So far this year I cleaned my closet, organized my kitchen, decluttered my bathroom, organized my office, gutted the garage, and tackled the laundry room. But that was at the old house. 😉
My new game plan is to have everything unpacked and put away by mid December {the remodel is suppose to be wrapping up towards the end of November} so I don’t have to stress about having an unorganized house anymore. If all goes well, I should have all the kitchen stuff unkpacked and put away in about 10 days. We’ll see.
2. Fit into the same jeans I wore 8 years ago when we moved into our {now old} house.
I had all but given up hope on fitting into my old jeans until my friend Wendy talked me into trying an It Works Ultimate Body Applicator. Have you tried one of these yet? I “wrapped” last week and I can already tell a difference. My stomach and sides are a little more tone than they were before and I’m going to “wrap” again later this afternoon.
I had planned on posting the before and after pictures this week but didn’t get around to taking them {it’s nuts around here} so I’ll take some pictures this week and post a picture of me in my old jeans in next weeks edition of 12 Goals for the New Year so you can see the difference.
3. Travel. So far this year I have been to Boston, London, Paris, Portland, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia and Victoria B.C. I’ll be heading to the south in a few weeks for a special event and I couldn’t be more excited! I hear they drink a lot of sweet tea there so I think I’ll fit right in. 😉
4. Send my daughter to college without having a nervous breakdown thus spending a week in bed sobbing. Done! She’s having a blast and lucky for me she likes talking/texting daily. 🙂 Life is good.
5. Get 3 new teeth. – No teeth yet.
6. Pay off my car. Done! I’m pretty sure the Volvo wagon was the best car that was ever invented.
7. Finish this primitive folk art rug I started 4 years ago. Finished! It took me 6 months but I’m done {I’m working on a second one and I hope to have it finished by Thanksgiving}.
8. Do something together as a family ever Sunday. We celebrated Monkey Boy’s birthday, ate cake {thanks to my neighbor} and looked at used cars. I don’t think it gets any better than that for a teenager.
9. Secret Plan #1 – Sell our house. It felt like it took us forever, but we were finally able to downsize both our home and yard and let me tell you Bob, it feels good. Really, really good.
10. Secret Plan #2 Buy a smaller house. Done!
11. Secret Plan #3 – Working on it. 😉
12. Convince the HH we should buy a Salt Box Style House in Colonial Williamsburg. Done! We didn’t buy a house in Colonial Williamsburg, but I did find us a vacation house on the east coast and we LOVE it. Note to self: a gas oven can be tricky.
13. Spend at least 1 hour a day working in my garden. I haven’t been able to spend an hour everyday in the garden these past few weeks, but I am making progress. Once the remodeling project is done and the house is put together I know I’ll be outside more. It’s just a little hard right now.
So there you have it, my goals for the new year.
How about YOU? How are your 2014 goals coming along?
~Mavis
P.S. YES, I know I wrote down 13 goals. I’m fairly certain I won’t be able to attain one of them. {gee, I wonder which one?} But I wanted to add it in there anyway because I believe in miracles.

Great idea, I need to do this for myself. Thanks for the motivation Mavis !

I had three big goals:
1. Lose 30 pounds. So far, zero.
2. Find a new place and move. COMPLETED!
3. Win the Lotto. We buy a ticket now and then if it goes over 100 million. So far, no dice.

Ha! 33% completion rate–I’d call that a total success.

Hi Mavis!! Your updates on the remodel are fantastic!!! Looking forward to seeing how it all turns out!
I just had to comment on your daughter – I’m so glad she and you both have adjusted well. I sent my daughter off this year too, and the anticipation was much worse than the reality!! LOL!!! She is doing awesome as well, and I didn’t have a break down at all. Seeing her so happy and well adjusted just made it all easier – and we too “catch-up” daily by text or talking!!! Life is good!!!!

So glad that you are adjusting well too. It totally could’ve gone another way, and I am happy for both of us that it didn’t!
