Winco $36.15
The Girl and I were running errands over by Winco so we decided to stop in and stock up on some bulk spices and other stuff like lentils, shredded coconut, rice mixes and beans. We were there around noon and let me tell you Bob, I have never seen Winco so deserted. It seemed like there were only about 20 people in the entire store. Cool, but weird.
Fred Meyer $8.58
The HH stopped by Fred Meyer’s on his way home to grab a couple of boxes of Famous Chocolate Wafers for me {what a nice guy}. I plan on making Smitten Kitchen’s chocolate peanut butter cheesecake for one of my {many} Christmas desserts. Have you tried it? Oh my word it looks delicious. Peanut butter, chocolate and cheesecake, does it get any better than that?
Also, a few random items were left behind after the freezer meal party last Monday. Not pictured are 1 1/2 gallons of milk, 6 onions, 4 heads of garlic and 2 bunches of parsley. So between our stock up trip to Costco last week, I think we’re set for a while.
How did you do this week? Score any hot deals at the grocery store or online?

Total Spent This Week $44.73
Total Spent Year to Date $1907.34 {Yikes!}

I love my trips to Winco. I generally don’t buy much from the prepared food aisles. I do purchase most of my produce there, I get my lunch meats in the deli, and I always bring a list of spices that need to be replenished. I can’t believe the savings on spices when you buy in bulk. If I could just stop my husband from throwing away the empty bottles…

How do you store all of your dried goods and pantry items? Have you done a post on that?
Mavis Butterfield says
Nope, not yet, but I will soon. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Looking forward to it!

I like to buy bulk spices (and a few other things) from the bulk bins at Winco. There is only one Winco I go to for this. The same guy (Ken) has been there since it opened! He seems to be there all the time- and he keeps everything IMMACULATE!!
Like Jeri mentioned, I save empty bottles/spice containers to put the bulk spices in. I also bought a couple sets of glass spice jars at IKEA, too.
I usually do pretty good meal planning, coupon and sale shopping, etc. EXCEPT between mid-November through the New Year.

I am so proud of you and your grocery spending this year. I know in the past you’ve tried to stay at $100 per month but lets face it that goal came with a ton of planning, clipping, running from store to store for deals and ultimately buying foods that weren’t that healthy to get the lowest price possible. ( I did this in the past as well and I’m not certain it was worth the time or the inches added to my waistline:I ). You are still under $200 per month and are buying only things your family will use and keeping health in mind. Sounds like a win win to me.

Oh, I wish I had a Winco here! We lived in the Sacramento area for about a year and I loved shopping at Winco. When we moved to Michigan, no more Winco…

Hi, I’m enjoying reading your blog! A woman after ny own heart. Currently between all my summer garden canned and frozen foods, the apples and pears ai harvested,e tc, we are at about $200 a month on food for a family of four…that also includes pet food, cleaning supplies and incidentals though. There were a couple tips I stumbled across and wanted to share if you haven’t already discovered them…. Safeway has a “Safeway Fresh Deals” free circular located in the fresh fruit/veggie grocery section. In it are coupons for $2/1 mc for fresh express salads. I’ve been using mine to buy bags of spinach, etc. for about 50cents a bag. There are also coupons for Foxy organic products $1/1 mc. They expire at the end of January 2015.
Also, every October Bob’s Red Mill website asks you to join the “October Unprocessed Challenge” and when you do they email you a slew of great coupons like $3/2 off any products and other specific $1/1 manufacturer coupons…I used this at Safeway at the Bulk bins, matching the weight of the bags to the savings of the coupons and got a bin of nearly free couscous, Texturized veggie protein for veggie burgers and meat substitute for sauces, oats, flour, and bagged flax. This was also good for Buymart if you have one in your area, because in October Buymart sells 5lb bags of wheat, white, and whole wheat Bob’s Red Mill flour for $2 each. When you pair the $3 off wyb 2 products coupons with this sale, you get high quality flour for about 10cents a lb (50 cents a bag). The best part is that Bob’s sends you a sheet of pdf coupons to your email and invites you to print as many as you need.
Anyway, Thanks again for your great blog!
