Years ago it would seem like by the time summer rolled around my kids jeans were on their last leg. It was hard for me to justify buying new jeans for them knowing they’d rarely wear them during the summer months and I would have to buy more when we went shopping for the new school year. My friend Zoe has a great solution: an awesome DIY Knee Patch Tutorial:
My eldest boy has a thing with wearing the knees out of his jeans. Maybe it’s because I buy used clothing. At any rate, this is how I take care of the problem.
1. Start by ripping out the inner leg seam. For a small pair of pants, you practically have to rip from the crotch down to the hem, but not quite. I ripped from pin to pin on this pair of jeans.

Even better, add a little flair to the patch for young kids to give them a pair they’ll love. (dinosaur, flower, shapes, etc.)

My four year old is obsessed with monster knee patches. (I got the idea from stuff like this: https://www.google.com/search?q=monster+knee+patches&client=ubuntu&hs=uPn&channel=fs&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=ikVJVaqCD42uyATpwYHICA&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAg&biw=1301&bih=673#imgrc=_
Sometimes I think she tries to tear her jeans to see what monster I’ll come up with when I patch them for her. 🙂

For small Children you could add quilted patches. For older I’d buy tuff skins does Sear still sell them. I not iron on patches inside if they are brand new.

I love the quilted patches idea. That would make for some seriously cute jeans!
