Poor Lucy puggle. She does not like the heat one bit. Earlier in the spring she would happily walk for an hour around the neighborhood. But with the temps in the upper 80’s the past few weeks… she will barely go for more than 10- 15 minutes. Is this normal? Does your dog prefer to stay indoors when it’s hot outside as well?

My pooch does not care for the heat, either. She has short fur, but it’s pretty thick and coarse. She loses a good bit of her fur in the summer, but she can still get pretty hot. I usually bring a small water bottle (with a cap that she can drink out of) on our walks when it’s hotter. I usually offer her a drink halfway through our walk and maybe once more if she seems to need it. We generally walk in the morning, which isn’t quite as hot as later in the day–I don’t know if you’re already doing that or if it’s an option. I also give her some ice in her water when we get back home to help her cool off.

I am not an expert, but I velieve Lucy is perfectly normal. Personally, I wouldn’t enjoy a walk in that heat either, and I live in Florida! 😉

Yes, it is normal, and may be life-saving in brachycephalic dogs, e.g., dogs with short snouts and squished in little faces, like boxers, pugs, etc. They cannot cool down, and restricting their movements helps keep them from overheating. In weather like this, when we still lived in suburbia, we would walk the dogs at 5:30 am.

Willow, a Pointer Boxer mix, and Cricket, a Pit Boxer mix, have a love/hate relationship with warm to hot weather. They love it because all the critters are out so they get to race around the yard like lunatics trying to catch something (they never do) but then, after only about 5 minutes, they get hot so they beg to go inside and lay on the cool cement in the basement.

The heat and humidity are so oppressive right now, that I start gardening at 5:30-6:00 am and stop around 9:30 because it gets unbearable.

I love this idea of popping popcorn in a bag! Sounds easy and cheap- two of my favorite things! 🙂
But I have a question… How is it that the staples in the bag are safe in the microwave? I mean it was drilled into me to never put anything metal in there.

No staples or tape needed. Just fold over top of bag a couple of times.
