Does your dog beg for food off your dinner plant too? Usually Lucy is pretty good about sitting patiently until the end of a meal for a scrap or two but last night we had BBQ and she had a hard time controlling herself. 🙂

Gotta be honest here. I have 3 things that I won’t tolerate from my dogs…..jumping up on people, crotch sniffing and begging food from the table. Both of my dogs (Shiba Inu and German Shepard) know when they see me putting food on the table, they go to their crates and wait. I don’t even have to close their doors now that they’ve got the hang of it. They both know when the humans are done eating, it’ll be their turn. Doesn’t mean I don’t hear a soft whine when they smell something they particularly like but their butts stay in the crates………..:)

I’m with you Pam. I try and make sure my dogs have good manners…we have done well with the jumping, not so great with the crotch sniffing but are champions with the anti-begging behavior. We don’t have crates but both dogs know they are not allowed around the kitchen or dining room while any cooking or eating is going on. They will lay right on the room threshold but don’t venture in (except with their eyes!!). And they have to stay away from their bowls until invited. They are both big dogs and energetic eaters and would bowl me over if I didn’t contain them.

My dog is a big, spoiled pansy (although perhaps not as spoiled as the Puggle Princess). He doesn’t just beg at dinner, but anytime. You don’t even technically have to have food, he’ll just walk over, put his chin on your knee and give you those big ole’ yellow lab eyes – the ones that say, “You haven’t fed me in over a month and I’m going to starve…..but I still love you”. Right now his avoiding the heat (90 degrees) lying on the couch with his head on his goose down pillow.
