Challenge Butter was on sale this week {limit 2 per transaction} for $1.69 each. BUt I was able to get the butter for only $0.94 each after $0.75 coupon {you can print 2 coupons per computer}. Tillamook yogurt was $0.33 each. Hummus was buy 1 get 1 free at $3.99 {$1.99 each} and since it freezes really well I stocked up. The deli Macaroni salad was a mistake at $1.25 {I thought the HH liked it but apparently he doesn’t so he ended up taking it to work and giving it away}. And last but not least, the 2 lb loaf of Tillamook cheese was $4.99.
I put my groceries in my car and then walked back in and bought another 2 pounds of butter and 2 loaves of Tillamook cheese. I use Monterey jack cheese in our favorite baked macaroni and cheese recipe but don’t make it too often because Monterey jack cheese {the good brand} doesn’t go on sale to often.
Thanks to Swagbucks I was able to snag a $25 gift card to LLBean. I’ve been going back and forth about investing in a pair of LLBean boots for a while now but was having a hard time with the price tag. The basic bean boots run $99 and my dream boots are $199. I did have a chance to buy a pair of discounted boots at the LLBean outlet store earlier this year when The Girl and I were in Maine for spring break, but they weren’t my dream boots or in the color I had wanted so I decided to pass.
I’m sure you know by now, I am not into fashion. {Clearly the understatement of the year} But when I do buy something, I want to buy quality, and something that will last for a very long time. So instead of paying out of pocket for my Bean boots I am going to save up my swagbucks and get them for free. 🙂
I am on the LLBean mailing list and occasionally they send out a $10 of $10 purchase coupons. Plus I’ll score 2% cash back if I go through ebates. LLBean offers free shipping, plus if I have the boots shipped to our vacation home I’ll save on sales tax as well. #WINNING 🙂
And now for some of the yummy food I made this week:
Butternut squash lasagna. Hole.Lee.Cats.People. This was the best thing I have made in YEARS!!! Seriously, you have to make it. {I’ll share the recipe tomorrow!}
I also made an amazing mushroom side dish this week too. The HH LOVED it. I’ll be posting the recipe on Sunday.
The weather is starting to cool down a bit so I’m not too sure how many more batches of heirloom tomato sauce I’ll be making but I’m pretty confident I’ll reach my goal of 25 quarts of sauce.
I baked a batch of our favorite homemade chocolate chip brownies. I put half of them out on the counter and froze the rest of the brownies for later. Which was pretty genius on my part because if I would have left the whole pan out they’d all be gone by now.
For the HH’s breakfast in bed this sunday I made eggs, potatoes with ham and toast with homemade strawberry jam.
We also had leftover split pea soup, a pot roast and spaghetti this week. How about YOU? Did you make anything good this past week?

Good morning Mavis, in the recipe link for the Tom sauce it shows a pic of the tomatoes peeled but in the photo of them in the crock pot they are not? I made salsa one and didn’t peel the tomatoes and the peel didn’t break down , do they break down when cooked in the crock pot ? Thank you .
Mavis Butterfield says
No they don’t break down. I cook everything for about 8 hours and then pick the tomato peels out.
Practical Parsimony says
I like the cooked tomato peels!
Brandy says
Do u make your husband breakfast in bed every Sunday?
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes. During the week I bring him his coffee and toast, a breakfast cookie or steel cut oats. Sundays I go all out though. 🙂
Brandy says
WOW! Lucky guy! 😉

I love the ll bean boots, my Dad always wore them when I was a kid. Unfortunately, all the women’s boots only go down to a size 6 and since they run so big my normal size 6 is way too big. Wish they would just make them true to size.
Dana says
You might try the kid’s sizes…. they’re probably cheaper, too.
Teri says
Have you tried making hummus? Seems like you could make it for even less than $2!
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes, homemade hummus is delicious.
Kristina says
I know you are a patient woman, so it probably won’t bother you that those Bean Boots are backordered for months right now, as they’ve apparently become a fashion item for the hipster set. Which is to say, you may not be able to wear them this winter. I heard about folks last year who ordered at Christmas and didn’t see the boots until spring.
Mavis Butterfield says
Yep, they are popular. I wore them when I was a teenager. Ha! I don’t mind waiting if I can get them for free.
Heather says
So it appears those brownies are cakelike? Was the middle gooey at all? Lots of texture issues and always looking for good brownies.
Mavis Butterfield says
I’d say more cakelike than gooey.
Jocelyn says
Sorry if this is Mavis 101, but where are you finding Tillamook blocks for that cheap?
Mavis Butterfield says
Fred Meyer had them on sale last week.
jocelyn says
Aw dang! I wonder if I missed it! Always try to keep my eyes out for that one- thanks!
