Our local hometown market, Harbor Greens advertised 6 buy 1 get one free item coupons in the local paper and so I knew I had to stop by and take advantage of some of the deals.
Harbor Greens Market $11.20
2 pounds of sliced Black Forest ham $4.99 lb, B1G1 Free, Bananas $0.77 lb B1G1 Free, Apples $0.99 lb B1G1 Free, onions $0.49 lb and butternut squash $0.69 a pound. I froze one bag of sliced ham for later in the month and made sandwiches all week with the other pound of ham.
I also swung by Fred Meyer and picked up their weekly specials.
Milk and orange juice was $0.99 per half gallon, Stagg Chili $0.99 with in store coupons {Monkey Boy LOVES Stagg chili}, saltines $0.79 a box, 3lb clementines $3.99, 5lb bag of Bob’s Red Mill whole wheat flour, $1.44 after a $1.00 printable coupon, generic pasta $0.89, and rye flour from the bulk bin $0.24.
Some of the meals I prepared last week:
I made Crock Pot Beef with Sweet Potatoes and Apples and even though the photo of the cooked meal didn’t turn out so great, I’m still going to post the recipe later this week because the recipe turned out so delicious.
Cooking a pot roast or beef tips in the crock pot is really the way to go if you ask me. The meat turns out tender every.single.time. Plus, not to have to be home to keep an eye on the oven all afternoon is a blessing as well.
Curry chicken with brown rice. If you have not tried this recipe before, it’s delicious and one of my family’s favorites. The recipe freezes really well too.
I also made another batch of my heirloom tomato sauce in the crock pot, whipped up a BLT sandwich using homegrown tomatoes, made ham sandwiches, Shepherd’s Pie {from our stash of freezer meals} and pasta. Not an exciting week recipe wise, but lot’s of homemade goodness.

Even though she was mine for TWO YEARS before I got married, my puppy (all dogs are puppies to me) LOVES my husband. She knows I’m the pushover for giving her what she wants haha, but she definitely likes my husband more. So basically she just uses me, which I’m ok with because she’s really cute 😛

Good Morning Mavis,
I love making homemade tomato sauce from heriloom tomatoes. I have never made it in the crock pot. How long do you cook the sauce in the crock pot?
I have both red and yellow heirlooms this year. 🙂
Thank you
Patricia

About 8 hours on high. Longer if you want a super thick sauce. Sooo yummy.

Stagg chili is .88 can at my local FM. There is a monthly booklet in the front of the store with a coupon for Stagg in it.
DH is Gluten-Free and it is one of the few chilis he can have (other than my delicious homemade) It is good!
If you read the label- pretty simple! All ingredients you recognize and can pronounce 🙂
Mavis says
I love it when I can recognize AND pronounce all of the ingredients.

I misread and thought the coupons were ‘Buy 6 get 1 free’ and thought that’s not a very good deal! I need to slow down and actually read the posts. 🙂
