I first connected with your blog through Thy Hand Hath Provided, and both blogs have been so helpful to me in my gardening/canning adventures!
I have a fun yard sale story to share with you.
Have you ever heard of people adding monsters to thrift store paintings just for fun? Well when I decided to make a whale-themed room for my little boys, I decided to keep my eye out for ocean paintings that I could add a whale to.
You see, at the time, my husband put our 3 and 5 year-old sons to bed each night by reading through ‘Moby Dick’ – all 822 pages of it! Let me tell you, those boys fell asleep very quickly each night! Anyways, Moby Dick became a running joke in our family over the many months that it took to finish the book. It didn’t take long to find the perfect painting at a yard sale – for $3!
It was a little grungy at first. I read online that the best ways to clean a painting were with your own spit and a q-tip or with old bread. We picked old bread!
I found a picture of what a white sperm whale named Moby Dick might look like on Wikipedia, sketched it onto my painting with a pencil, and then filled it in with some hand-me-down paints. I had never done anything like this before, and it was so much fun!
And this is how it turned out! Not bad for $3, huh? I highly recommend this activity for a good time.
