Okay… so a popular comment here seems to be…
What do you feed your family?
We want pictures!
Fine…
Last Saturday night my neighbor Mrs. Active Wear and I hosted a murder mystery dinner for the teenagers and all their friends…
It was a formal affair…
Complete with party dresses and sparkling beverages
(free sierra mist).
Everything on the dinner plate was FREE…
Except the chicken & salad…
Mrs. Active Wear paid for that 🙂
The original deal was Mrs. Active Wear and I would each pitch in $35 for the party…
Because I’m a couponing super hero… all the food I contributed was FREE… I paid $35 for the game… She however totally cheated and paid bookoo bucks for salad and chicken… oh and red roses… (I tried to tell her there was some FREE wheat grass grass growing in the back yard but she just gave me a dirty look)
We also served a delicious dessert…
Free brownies… plus… one of the girls brought a yummy homemade cake and a tub of vanilla ice cream… dessert was delish!

When Sunday morning rolled around…Mavis slept in until 9am… then stayed in bed til noon (a rare treat) So I have NO IDEA what the people who live here ate for breakfast or lunch for that matter…
I however remember eating leftover brownies (5?) at some point…
I did serve them a nice pasta dinner though…
Free spaghetti noodles, .09 cents pasta sauce and a dozen meatballs from Costco…
I’m guessing this dinner cost about $1.00 total… plus left overs!
For dessert we all had ice cream.
Originally I was planning on taking pictures of all our breakfast, lunch and dinners for you people… but HELLO… do you know what a pain in the arse that is?
So here are the pictures I got around to taking this week…
Breakfast…
Left over pancakes with blueberries…
Jelly Toast…
FREE Special K Cereal…
You can tell this is the Girl Who Thinks Shes A Birds bowl…
Because when Monkey Boy eats cereal for breakfast… he eats HALF the box… from a MIXING BOWL…
Lunches…
Turkey & Guacamole sandwich…
Lunches packed from home are sooooo much better than the “crap on a plate” they sell kids at school for $2.50
Or FREE nuts for that matter?
Free Bananas, Free Apples, Free Nuts, Free Bagels, Free Jicama, Free M&M’s…
Who says being a cheapskate isn’t fun?
Dinners…
Free Halibut, but I had to pay for the potatoes…DARN!
Crepes… Well… it was suppose to be a breakfast dinner … I had planned on including bacon but didn’t realize I forgot to cook it until 1/2 way thru dinner… oh well
Big Salad night…
I even made fajitas with homemade tortillas this week…
So there you have it…
It is possible to eat like a normal person on a tight budget…
Who new?

Your comment about the potatoes made me laugh!

I have noticed a couple of things you have said you are not sure what to do with. Here’s some things I do. I steam califlour till soft then squish it with a fork and stir it into white rice. Nobody every notices. I also do this with carrots and califlour to add to sloppy joes. Anything green, like spinach, I chop and dry some or freeze and throw a handful into anything that uses herbs, soups, pasta sauces etc… all anybody knows is that mom cooked with “herbs”. lol.Eggplant, slice into thin strips and dry, then use like pasta/noodles. Any fruit with left over veggies can make snack roll ups. cookie cutters make great shapes for kids and the old man eats the in betweens. http://www.budget101.com has recipies, including your own homeade vegitable drinks etc. Hope this helps. Getting up the courage to ask at my neighborhood grocery for scraps for chickens…I don’t have any, but a guy about six blocks away sells fresh eggs, so maybe I can work out a trade there! So excited. lol. Fyi, you would be amazed at some of the things I have found dumpster diving. Anyplace that builds anything usually has good stuff from time to time. Thanks for sharing.
