One of my goals this year is to simplify and one of the ways I plan to do that is to sell or donate at least 1,000 ordinary items that are crowding our closets and drawers by the end of July. My goal date is set for the end of July because my neighborhood has a big community yard sale every summer and while I don’t mind dropping stuff at the thrift store, I’d like to see if I could make a few bucks at the yard sale first.
Ahh the garage. Can I just say I am glad it’s finally cleaned out? Well, I mean all my yard sale boxes are stacked up in there but the general cleaning? It’s done. And it feels good to check that baby off my list.
9 flower pots, 1 owl bucket, 1 vertical garden and a crazy heavy cast iron lantern I bought at one of Girl Girl’s yard sales like 12 years ago for $10. I bet I can still get $10 for it too. 😉
25 tiny terra cotta planters, 1 plastic plant mold, 1 rusty muffin tin and a plastic shoe mat. Oh, and a pair of antique scissors that you could probably use to stab an intruder to death with.
Have you ever seen someone sell chemicals at a yard sale before? Don’t you think some guy will come along and be happy to pay a quarter each for these? I mean seriously, it might make having to ride around with the little woman all morning while she checks every yard sale in town for that long lost cookie jar of her youth totally worth it for someone.
Radom blue bar, Nylon rope that I swear has been in our various garages for at least 10 years, some sort of metal wire and I think that might be a tool to pull up tile.
Rollerblades. Remember these? When I was 18 and working at a sporting good store, a rep came around and all the employees got to try a pair out in the parking lot one night after closing. THEY WERE AWESOME. Apparently my kids didn’t think so though and now it’s time to say bye bye.
Which is actually a good thing because they are kind of dangerous. But then again so are skateboards, bikes, scooters and anything else that’s fun.
Only 151 more items to go!

You might want to check this one out, especially #3. She hung ‘shoe organizers’ on her fence, & then planted lettuce in them.

Personally, I’d put the chemicals in a free box to get rid of them. They are such a pain to dispose of. Much more likely to get taken that way.

I’d be keeping the rope and wire!! That stuff is mega handy around here 🙂
I am feeling guilty about our garage now. I have been promising for an eon to make a day to get in and clean out stuff with my husband!!
Time to make a date I think!

Yes, that is for tile work. Wish I lived closer, I need one. LOL
And, yes again, chemicals sell at yard sales….however if they aren’t gone by 1/2 way through your yard sale put them in the “free box”….and every yard sale should have a “Free” box…near the road with a big sign “Items in this box FREE”. And add one or two items each hour to the box until everything is GONE. (it works)

Yep, I’ve bought old-but-unopened quarts of motor oil at yard sales for $2 a quart. You will definitely find some takers for that stuff!
I’m looking forward to doing a similar cleanout of my house — just not quite ready to start yet, but I’ve started noticing things in each cupboard and drawer, and imagining keeping a tally like you are. I think it will be a blast! Just not sure what my goal number should be — 1000 sounds like too much, although if I include junk in the yard and also include stuff I toss out, I could probably make it!
Anyway, thanks for the inspiration!
