While on a business trip in California a few days ago the HH and I took the day off from work and drove out to the Napa Valley. The plan was to hit a few of our favorite spots as well take in a winery tour. Even though I’m not a wine drinker, I LOVE touring wineries {HELLO gardens!}.
In past years we’ve checked out the vineyards at Robert Mondavi, Beringer, Inglenook, and Castello di Amorosa. This time around I booked us a spot at B Cellars. It’s a newer winery in Oakville, California and at $60 per person it was the most we’ve ever spent on a winery tour.
The reviews online were so good that I felt like we wouldn’t regret the splurge.
And we were right. In fact as we were walking out the door to our next destination we told our guide we thought the winery should be charging more for the tour and tasting experience. {Seriously. When have I ever said that?!}
Herb and vegetable gardens, chickens, caves, food and wine. What more could you ask for?
Oh, did I mention it was a private tour? Yep, apparently 10:30 am on a weekday is the time to go if you want a winery tour guide all to yourself.
By the time we got back to the wine and food pairing portion of the tour we had already sampled 3 different wines. By the end of the tour I think we had sampled a total of 7 wines {it could have been 8, I’m not totally sure}.
Seriously. How often do you get something other than cheese on a wine tour?
Crispy duck confit, pan seared chicken and New York strip steak.
It was the perfect start to a perfect date day in sunny California. I only wish they would build a small bed and breakfast next door so I could pull a few weeds in exchange for some more delicious food and playtime with the chickens.
If you find yourself in the Napa Valley anytime soon be sure to make a reservation and take a tour. You won’t be disappointed. Trust me.
