Last week was a good one. The Girl finished up classes, I finished my seasonal job, Lucy got lots of snuggle time and the HH and Monkey Boy were both busy at work. Christmas is right around the corner and our house is filling up with sweets and boxes from the UPS guy. Life is good.
Here’s what made it’s way home from the grocery store last week:
Target $4.38 after an iBotta rebate for the Keebler Crusts
For some strange reason I had been craving a chocolate pudding pie for the last few weeks. I used to make them all the time when the kids were little because it was one of their favorite desserts. So when I saw that the crusts were on sale at my local Target PLUS there was a $1 off 2 Ibotta rebate I picked I picked up a couple of them. Pudding was also on sale for $1 a box. Talk about an easy peasy {and expensive} dessert!
Fred Meyer $17.98 after ecoupons and iBotta rebates
Milk was on sale for $0.99 per half gallon, 2 pounds of carrots $1.19, bananas $0.59 a pound and whipping cream was $1.99. I was also able to pick up some shredded lettuce, garlic bread and 15 mini croissants on manager markdowns. The cake mix, cookies and soda were all friday/25 days of Christmas freebies.
And that super gross Velveeta cheese? Well that’s going in the HH’s stocking. He made a comment a few days ago about wishing he had some “cheese dip” for his tortilla chips {I don’t think we’ve had Velveeta in the house for 10+ years}. So really, come Christmas morning, it will be like a dream come true. 😉
iBotta Rebates I took advantage of this week:
- Barilla Pasta $0.50 off 2 {not pictured}
- Gatorade Recover Bar $1.00 off 1 {for Monkey Boy’s stocking}
- Keebler crusts $1.00 off 2
- Velveeta Mini Blocks $1.00 off 1 plus there is a $1.00 Fred Meyer ecoupon available.
Here are some of the meals I ate last week:
Work Lunch – Leftover quiche, hard boiled egg, almonds, dill pickles and chocolate. I know you’re totally jealous because it’s pretty much the lunch of champions. 😉
Pork fried rice and Zaycon salmon. Delicious! We also ate 3 freezer meals this week so I didn’t have to cook when I got home from work. It was lovely.
Big salad.
Best. Dinner.Ever.
Breakfast weenies, egg and cheese stuffed croissant and banana slices.
Meyer lemon pudding cake. It’s light, fluffy and pretty magical if you ask me. Just be careful not to eat the whole pan.
Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Brownies. Recipe coming early next year. You know, when you are all trying to lose weight and not eat sweets. 😉
On friday night we went over the the HB’s house for dinner and let me tell you Bob, it was lovely. Mrs. HB had appetizers set out when we arrived and her spinach dip {made with Greek yogurt} was divine.
Her roasted brussel sprouts were a big hit as well {I’ll post her recipe later this afternoon}.
She even made homemade gravy! Maybe I should have asked for that recipe too.
Pot roast with mushrooms and carrots, canned peas, mashed taters and roasted veggies. Seriously, we should eat there more often. 🙂
How about YOU? Did you dine with friends this week? Make any sweet treats to pass out to friends and family? Get an awesome deal at the grocery store? I’d love to hear about it.

From your posts, Mrs. HB sounds like a lovely person with a warm heart. She also puts out quite a spread which I LOVE and her serving platters are beautiful!! You are blessed to have a friend like that. 🙂 I wish people got together more often today like they used to.

I would love a seasonal job since we just moved to Boise and getting settled. Do you mind sharing where you worked? Thanks Mavis!

I cooked all of my meals this week except for a girl’s night Christmas dinner at a new restaurant. I went to a cookie exchange and made salted caramel pretzel chocolate chip cookies. They were awesome. Someone else made lemon ricotta cookies that were even better!

Congrats on finishing your job. Now that it’s over will you share what you were working at? I have thought about going back to work myself but am interested in starting with a temporary job. Did you enjoy it?
Merry Christmas to you and yours Mavis. Thanks for your wonderful blog.

Is the waffle cone tree on Mrs. HB’s table a craft or dessert???
Mavis Butterfield says
It was a waffle cone village. 🙂 Edible craft?
Kara says
The best kind of craft!
Merry Christmas to you and yours, Mavis.

Mavis,
My husband and I spent today in Chicago. We go every year to walk around and see the lights and Christmas decorations etc. We were walking on North Michigan Ave, which is a big shopping area, and what did we see? Elves with wagons full of Velveeta Blocks! They were giving them away. We ended up with 3. This freebie will go into our kids “Christmas Family Bags”. We aren’t sure if they even eat the stuff, we don’t, but we thought it was funny after reading about your Velveeta.
We have 7 grown children, a blended family. At Christmas each family gets a holiday gift bag and they receive there goodies (gift cards, chocolates, whatever handmade item I do that year, etc) in that bag. So this year 3 lucky families will get the Velveeta Blocks. Life is good!
