My total for groceries and bakery treats was already at $202.30 for the month, so I knew going into last week I wasn’t going to be able to spend much at the grocery store if I was going to stay on budget. When I went shopping with Mrs. HB the only thing I picked up was a can of pickled beets for $0.69 {my favorite thing to put on a salad} and the Fred Meyer freebie for last week, a PowerBar.
Because HELLO…. I needed some money for more bakery treats. 😉 I didn’t notice prices on anything when we went to Sluys’ Bakery but I was a little surprised when my total came to $20.14 for 7 bakery treats and a loaf of bread. But hey, this is my year to SPLURGE on yummy goodness and not feel bad about it. So whateva.
Sunday party platter for the HH.
JJ’s oatmeal bread. SUPER easy to make and it’s wonderful toasted.
Big salads. I pretty much ate them for lunch every day last week.
Operation Eat Everything in the Freezer: Trader Joe’s clams in garlic butter sauce. The HH loves them. I think they stink up the kitchen.
Pork fried rice. It never lasts long around here because the boys always request the leftovers for their lunch the next day.
Sweet and sour meatballs, beans and rice with sausage, duck chili and Nutella banana muffins and blackberry muffins. All made with Mrs. HB this past week {more on that in the next post}.
And last but not least, the lunch I packed for the HH this morning: Tuna salad on Crusty No Knead Bread, Kettle chips, 2 oatmeal cookies, 1 orange and a 1 date. Pretty exciting stuff, I know.
This week I’ll swing by Albertsons to see if my case of tuna @ $0.59 a can is back in stock {I got a raincheck last week} and I noticed Fred Meyer has Greek Gods yogurt on sale this week for $2.50 each, but other than those two things, I have no idea what else I need.
I guess that means I should probably clean out/organize the refrigerator today. 😉
Well, that’s it for this weeks grocery budget update.
Did YOU find any good deals at the stores this week?

Good job on not spending much! The Instant Pot I bought with my Christmas money arrived on Saturday afternoon so I went to WinCo to buy a pork roast to put in it yesterday- almost 9 pounds of bone in pork roast for $12.74 yielded lots of Hawaiian pork and I made homemade teriyaki sauce, steamed rice, and honey rolls to go with it…delicious and so many leftovers. I hope to stay out of the grocery store for the rest of this week.

For the honey rolls-

I would have preferred Hawaiian rolls but I’m trying to lower my spend at the grocery store and I had the ingredients on hand to make the honey pan rolls.

Mavis, do you buy your dates (the kind you eat) at a store or online? I am on a big date kick right now.
Teresa says
Hi Suzanne,
Not sure if you have a WINCO near but they have pretty good dates in the bulk bins at ours.
Mavis Butterfield says
We bought them at Costco and they were $9.99 for 2 pounds. I later found them at Winco in the bulk bins for $3.99 a pound!

Thanks!

How are those Fred Meyer beets? That is so much cheaper than the pickled beets I normally buy.
Mavis Butterfield says
Good. I can’t tell the difference from the name brands.
Taryn says
Thanks, I love pickled beets!

Just curious: When you and HH went to the bakery last week, did it count as a “date” even if the kiddos went, too?

I never thought to pre peel an orange for my husband’s lunch! He bites his fingernails and can never open them…and somehow the little orange peelie gadgets always get lost. Thanks, Mavis!

The Greek Gods website allows you to print 2 fifty cents off any one Greek Gods yogurt coupons a month! Making them only $2 each at Fred Meyer this week! A great price for the best yogurt.
