The HH and I aren’t big on Valentine’s day. I guess we like to just show we like each other every day of the year, instead of cramming it into one day… although there was that one year he brought me home a truckload of dirt. Now that’s true love!
So while we don’t go big on the “Day of Love,” with overpriced roses or boxes of waxy chocolates, I do still like to incorporated a heart or two into dinner or dessert. It really could be something as simple as making a pot of chicken soup and cutting the carrots into hearts. Free and easy. That’s how I show love. If that describes you, too, check out these similar ideas:
Make everything heart shaped {pancakes, mound of mashed potatoes, whipped cream on your pie. The heart-shaped food possibilities are endless!}
Stay in bed {naps are the best V-day gift!}
Mix tape {throwing it back to the 80s}
Star gazing {free and gorgeous!}
Head out for a hike {time together + exercise = a great day!}
Love notes jar {fill it up and he can draw one a day for a little pick-me-up!}
Blanket fort {comfy and fun}
Write a list of “100 Reasons I Love You” and gift it to your spouse {or write them on 100 individual heart-shaped notes and heart attack his bathroom mirror!}
Bring a $5 bill to the store and see who can get the most bang for their buck {if he picks out chocolate, he automatically wins!}
Indoor picnic {in your blanket fort perhaps?}
Read a book together and plan a “book club” date night to discuss it on Valentine’s Day {a little more intimate than your typical girlfriend’s gathering!}
Do a jigsaw puzzle together {this actually sounds like a nice relaxing date night}
Watch the sunset {nature can paint a pretty awesome gift!}
Scavenger hunt {a little planning, a lot of fun!}
Volunteer {a great way to fill your day together!}
Cook each others favorite foods {yum!}
Cuddle up for a movie night {watch the first movie you ever say together for nostalgia!}
Bike around the city {check out some free sights along the way!}
Pick a new dessert recipe to bake together {this would be more like me baking while the HH watches}
Walk around exploring Ikea {grab a cheap meal there afterwards!}
Write new updated vows and read them to each other {over a romantic candlelight dinner perhaps?}
Gift your spouse a coupon book {coupons for a date night out, foot rub, favorite dessert, back massage, etc.}
What are some fun free or low cost things you do for Valentine’s Day? Spill your ideas below.

My partner and I don’t celebrate Valentines or anniversaries in the traditional sense. I usually just make his favorite meal and dessert. He’ll sometimes take me out to eat but never on February 14. I’d rather avoid crowded restaurants and spend the night in watching a movie and eating popcorn with my shug.
Some small things we do to show we care:
I will put a note in his lunchbox with a dollar to buy a Sprite (I refuse to spend money on soda).
He brings home Girl Scout cookies without me asking.
When he goes to buy beer he will get something for me too.
He gave me chicks one year!

Here are a couple low cost valentine gifts. If you live in a snowy area, stamp out a heart in the snow. I live in the moutanins and have lots of rocks. I plan on making a heart out of rocks for my husband on Valentine’s Day. I will put it into our rock garden. Use what you have!!!
