Okay, I’ve heard Manchester by the Sea is heavy, but amazing! The story follows, Lee Chandler (Casey Affleck), after the death of his older brother shockingly leaves him sole guardian of his teenage nephew, Patrick. To care for him, he reluctantly returns to Manchester-by-the-Sea, the fishing village where his working-class family has lived for generations, and a town where he left behind a family tragedy.
I’m going to stock up on tissues and give it a watch. Let me know what you think if you decide to watch it, or what you thought if you have already seen it. It’s free with Amazon Prime!

If I could go back in time I would not watch this movie. Awful.

Ditto. And where do they get off saying it is “hysterically funny” in the movie poster?!
Susie says
Yep, ditto.

Have you watched the documentary “Seed: The Untold Story”? I believe we watched it for free on PBS through our Roku device. It’s pretty good.

We watched this about a month ago. You’ll definitely need your tissues, but it was a great movie. The performances by the actors was really, really good. Real, raw and gritty is how I would describe it. Tell us what you think!!

In my mind I have rewritten my own ending to this movie. Let us know how you liked it Mavis.

Your heart will literally break. Sobbing so much sobbing. Amazing performances. Every once we in awhile we all need a good cry.

This movie was.so.real. Casey Affleck was unbelievably believable and the supporting cast was excellent as well. The story was.so.real. Was it “dark”? Yes. Funny? No. Real? Yes.
I can’t day I loved it because it was too real for a casual “loved it” movie verdict-but I definitely “got it” and appreciated what it was communicating to us re: grief’s depths and life’s tragedies.

I watched last night too! I have to say I was disappointed. It took me a while to figure out if Casey Affleck was just a bad actor or his character was SUPPOSED to be that flat, but I finally decided on the latter. So yeah, he did a great job.
I’ve known people who have been through some awful things but I’ve never seen people who acted like that. I felt like it was really realistic, but to be honest, I get enough REAL every day. When I watch a movie, I want escapism, or at least a satisfying ending. Doesn’t have to be happy, but at least satisfying. It seemed like everyone was defeated in this movie. And sometimes that’s how things are. But I don’t want to watch a movie about it.

The movie- Good, quiet, slow, dark, sad, unfathomable. The scene where the guy and the ex wife talk about what happened when they run into each other, gut wrenching. You won’t forget this one.

Oh this movie, not one I would recommend to others as it is sad and sometimes hard to watch for the realness of it. But Kyle Chandler can do no wrong in my book, and I did think they did a great job with the story telling. But I agree that I normally watch movies to escape and this was not the escape I was looking for.
