If you are looking for an AH-Mazing show to watch this weekend, grab yourself some snacks, shirk all other responsibilities and binge watch Anne with an E. It is good. So so good. In fact, I loved it so much I watched the entire series back to back. I have to admit, I was a little nervous about an Anne of Green Gables remake. The original was so wonderful that it could have been a train wreck. It wasn’t. It IS different from the Anne of my childhood. It’s a little darker, but it works. And the casting is phenomenal. Seriously, if you don’t have Netflix, it’s worth getting just to watch this!
Let me know what you think if you decide to watch it or if you’ve already seen it, let me know if you loved it as much as I did.
Peace out Girl Scouts & have yourself a great weekend,
~Mavis

Chazz and I have been binge watching this, this week and LOVE IT. So glad you can watch it too. We have seen 7, and not sure if there are any more this year. I loved my original Anne, and was sure I wouldn’t like this new girl, but I love her too. So compassionate and smart.

I started this last night and watched the first three late into the night! It will never be the 1980s miniseries and I’m not cool with some of the changes from the book – like her ACTUALLY being sent back at one point and the while making a baby pet mouse debacle that is quite a departure from the novels or any previous movies – not true to the spirit of Anne in my opinion. But intriguing enough to keep me watching and I do like the casting – recognize some of them from the Road to Avonlea show of the early 90s, including Matthew 🙂

Love it! We fimished it two nights ago and I just posted it in insta which I never do but wasn’t it captivating? The filming is gorgeous.

I LOVE the filming as well.

But what did Lucy (the dog, not the author) think?! That is the real question!
I think we need a picture of her watching it.

I’ve watched 6 of the episodes so far and loved it. I was able to even get husband to watch it with me, that really surprised me. It is so good! Marilla is excellent. I hope they make more.

We have been watching this phenomenal show. The casting is outstanding. We think it is the best thing that Netflix has done so far.

I, too, was nervous because I love the 1980’s miniseries, but I really enjoyed it! The casting is marvelous and I can ‘see’ the characters through them. I actually like the darker elements, the flashbacks. I think if it were written today L.M. Montgomery would have included more detail about Anne’s background, instead of leaving it to our imaginations.

I haven’t seen it but am wondering about how child friendly it is. I’ve read some things about it that make me wary about watching it with children.
AlysonRR says
It shows abuse (slapping, starving, beating with a rope/belt) of Anne in her previous foster homes. There are dark flashbacks in which she remembers her life as an orphan which make it clear what that was like in that time period. Realistic, but yes, I would pre-screen it if these are things you’re not ready to speak with your children about.
My kids are teenagers who are very interested in “real” history. While this is fictional, it brings up issues of how orphans were treated in the 19th century. We watched Horatio Hornblower recently, too, so there have been many discussions about how treatment of children and teens has improved over the centuries.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I was seriously afraid to watch it because I didn’t know if it could stand up to the original. Now, I can’t wait to binge this show.
